Sony Introduces Its First Fisheye Zoom G Lens
Sony has announced the FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G (SEL814G), its first fisheye zoom lens in the G Lens range for full-frame Alpha E-mount cameras.

Designed to give photographers and filmmakers a wide range of creative perspectives in a compact package, the new lens covers everything from a circular fisheye view at 8mm to a diagonal fisheye view at 14mm. Sony says the lens is aimed at a range of applications including landscapes, architecture, sports and video production.
Circular to diagonal fisheye perspectives
The 8-14mm zoom range is perhaps the most distinctive feature of the new lens. At 8mm, photographers can create a circular fisheye image with a 180-degree angle of view, while at 14mm the lens produces a diagonal fisheye effect covering the full frame.
This gives photographers the ability to alter both the composition and intensity of the fisheye effect without changing lenses.
Sony has also designed the lens for close-up creative work. It has a minimum focusing distance of just 0.15m, while maximum magnification reaches 0.22x at the 14mm end.
Compact and lightweight

Despite its unusual optical range, the SEL814G measures approximately 82.8mm in length and weighs around 314g, making it suitable for handheld photography as well as gimbal and rig-based video work.
An internal zoom mechanism is designed to minimise changes in the lens’ centre of gravity while zooming, which should be particularly useful for video shooters and gimbal users.
The optical construction incorporates ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass and aspherical elements to help control chromatic aberration and other optical distortions while maintaining high resolution across the zoom range.
Built for stills and video
Sony has equipped the lens with fast and precise autofocus, while Linear Response Manual Focus, reduced focus breathing and quiet operation make it suitable for movie production.
The lens also features a focus mode switch, zoom lock switch and an aperture ring with switchable click stops. Its dust- and moisture-resistant construction, together with a fluorine coating on the front element, is designed to make it better suited to outdoor shooting.
Interestingly, Sony is also highlighting the lens for spatial content production. Two SEL814G lenses can be used alongside the company’s VENICE Extension System Mini, with the optical axes positioned approximately 64mm apart — close to the average distance between human eyes — to support spatial and VR content creation.
Price and availability
The Sony FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G (SEL814G) is scheduled to become available in the UK from the end of September 2026, with a recommended price of £1,500.
The new lens will also be showcased at Sony’s booth during IBC 2026 in Amsterdam, beginning 11 September.
For photographers looking for something more unusual than a conventional ultra-wideangle lens, the combination of an 8-14mm zoom range and the ability to move between circular and diagonal fisheye perspectives makes the SEL814G an interesting addition to Sony’s full-frame E-mount system.
