, Panasonic unveils new PTZ cameras with global shutter technology

Panasonic has announced the development of two new high-end PTZ camera series, the AW-UE200 and AW-UER200, featuring what the company describes as the world’s first global shutter MOS sensor in a PTZ camera. The new systems are designed to deliver more accurate image capture in demanding production environments, including live events, sports and virtual production.

At the heart of both cameras is a 1.2-inch 5K MOS sensor with global shutter technology, designed to minimise image distortion when capturing fast-moving subjects. Panasonic says the technology can also help reduce flicker associated with LED lighting and provide more natural-looking footage when cameras are used alongside LED walls in virtual production environments. The 5K sensor provides oversampling for 4K output, while future firmware updates are planned to add 120fps and 180fps HD high-frame-rate shooting.

Both models feature a new lens offering an 80-degree horizontal angle of view and 22x optical zoom, equivalent to approximately 22.5–500mm in 35mm terms. The zoom can be operated at variable speeds, ranging from approximately 0.5 seconds for rapid zooms through to 180 seconds for slow, controlled movements.

The AW-UE200 series is aimed at applications requiring fast and precise camera movement, with pan and tilt speeds of up to 400 degrees per second and acceleration from stationary to maximum speed in approximately 0.2 seconds.

Meanwhile, the AW-UER200 series introduces a roll mechanism capable of rotating from -200° to +200°. This allows operators to create unconventional compositions and supports simultaneous 16:9 and 9:16 output, making the camera particularly suited to vertical video production for social media and streaming.

Selected models will also support SMPTE ST 2110 and Dante, providing integration with IP-based production environments and allowing the cameras to form part of more sophisticated broadcast and live-production systems.

The AW-UE200 and AW-UE210 are scheduled for release in February 2027, while the AW-UER200 and AW-UER210 are expected during the second quarter of 2027.

Panasonic will showcase the new cameras at IBC 2026 in Amsterdam from September 11–14, where visitors will be able to see the technology in a professional production environment.
