The Epic Adventures Photography Competition 2026 celebrates the very best in travel and tourism photography, inviting photographers to showcase the places, people, journeys and experiences that make travelling so memorable.

From iconic landmarks and spectacular architecture to vibrant street scenes, fascinating cultures and unexpected discoveries, we’re looking for photographs that capture a genuine sense of place, atmosphere and adventure.

And with entry costing just £1 per image, you can enter as many photographs as you like.

What Makes an Epic Adventure?

Travel photography is about much more than simply recording where you’ve been. The strongest images transport the viewer somewhere else. They reveal something about a destination, communicate its atmosphere and tell a story about the experience of being there.

Your photograph could take us to a world-famous landmark, through a bustling city street, into a fascinating local community or along a road less travelled.

We’re looking for photographs across a wide range of travel and tourism subjects, including:

Iconic Destinations

Show us famous landmarks, remarkable architecture and recognisable destinations from a compelling perspective.

Think beyond the standard tourist snapshot. Look for interesting compositions, unusual viewpoints, dramatic light or a fresh way of seeing a familiar location.

Culture & People

Capture the traditions, people and character that make a destination unique.

From colourful celebrations and local traditions to authentic everyday moments, photographs that reveal the personality of a place can create powerful travel stories.

Street Scenes

Cities and towns are constantly changing around us.

Capture everyday life, interesting characters, architecture, movement and the energy of streets around the world.

Epic Journeys

Sometimes the journey is just as important as the destination.

Show us the road ahead, the railway journey, the flight, the boat trip or those unexpected moments that become part of the adventure.

Travel Experiences

Tourism isn’t just about where you go — it’s about what you experience along the way.

We’re looking for photographs that capture memorable encounters, transport, activities, attractions and experiences that bring a journey to life.

Off the Beaten Track

Look beyond the obvious.

Unusual locations, hidden details, unexpected viewpoints and lesser-known destinations can all make fascinating photographs.

Perhaps your best travel photograph is somewhere that doesn’t appear in the guidebook.

How Can You Improve Your Chances?

Our judges will be looking for excellence of technique combined with the strength of the narrative.

A technically excellent photograph is important, but consider what your image says to the viewer.

Show a Sense of Place

What makes this destination distinctive?

Think about architecture, culture, people, landscape, landmarks, colour and atmosphere — and how you can combine those elements to create a strong sense of location.

Look Beyond the Obvious

Don’t simply photograph what everyone else photographs.

Try different viewpoints, look for interesting details and wait for the right moment. A familiar destination can become much more interesting when photographed from an unexpected perspective.

Capture the Atmosphere

Light, timing, weather and people can completely change the character of a photograph.

Consider how these elements can communicate what it actually felt like to be there.

Entry is just £1 per image, and there is no limit to the number of photographs you can enter.

Competition Rules

Enter as many images as you like.
The work must be that of the entrant.
No entry will be eligible that has been made under the supervision of an instructor or as a class assignment.
Images submitted must be no larger than 2000 pixels wide.
All entrants must be able to supply a high-resolution image at 300dpi.
No distinguishing marks on the images.
Copyright of the images remains with the photographer. The Societies recognises that the entrant, the author of the photograph, retains complete and full ownership of the copyright in each submission.
Entries can be used for publicity purposes by The Societies and may be included in our digital magazine Professional Imagemaker and other promotional purposes.
Competition closes 30 November 2026.
The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
