The first Rollei lens: AF 85 mm F/1.8 for Sony FE and Nikon Z

Rollei is opening a new chapter in its long history with the introduction of its first lens, the Rollei AF 85 mm F/1.8. This lens is compatible with Sony FE and Nikon Z mounts. With the introduction of the VAF series, Rollei is expanding its product portfolio to include lenses designed specifically for modern, full-frame, mirrorless cameras. The 85-millimeter portrait lens combines Rollei’s proven quality with cutting-edge technology, setting new standards for image quality and user-friendliness.
The 85-millimeter focal length is ideal for portrait photography, delivering natural proportions without distortion. The Rollei AF 85 mm F/1.8 makes optimal use of this classic focal length, offering razor-sharp results even at a wide-open aperture thanks to its F/1.8 aperture. Eleven aperture blades create an elegant, perfectly round bokeh that separates the main subject from the background, enabling professional portraits with impressive depth.
The innovative HFT-X (High Fidelity Transfer) coating significantly reduces ghosting and flare while maintaining natural image contrast. Combined with the high-quality glass selection of ten elements in seven groups, including two ED and two HR lenses, the lens ensures high edge sharpness and minimizes chromatic aberrations for brilliant image quality, even in the corners.
The precise STM autofocus works quickly and quietly, which is particularly beneficial for video recording. Face and eye tracking are fully supported, making this lens ideal for photography and videography. With a minimum focusing distance of 0.85 meters and a maximum magnification of 0.12x, the lens can capture detailed close-up shots.
Despite its robust, all-metal housing, the Rollei AF 85 mm F/1.8 weighs only 477 grams and sits perfectly balanced in the hand. Its intuitive operation is ensured by a high-quality metal aperture ring (Sony FE version only), an AF/MF switch, and a customizable FN button. The linear aperture ring on the Sony model enables stepless, silent aperture changes for professional video recording.
Both lenses feature precise metal mounts (E-mount and Z-mount, respectively) with complete EXIF data transfer and a USB-C port for quick firmware updates in just 30 seconds. The 62-millimeter filter thread is compatible with all standard filters from the company’s range.
