FUJIFILM Corporation today announces the launch of the FUJIFILM X-M5 (X-M5) – a new addition to the FUJIFILM X Series of mirrorless digital cameras, known for their compact, lightweight body, and superior image quality based on the company’s proprietary colour reproduction technology. The camera will be available in a choice of black or silver from 14 November 2024.

Weighing approximately 355g1, the FUJIFILM X-M5 is the lightest2 model in the X Series. This versatile and portable camera is equipped with a full range of features, including subject detection AF that can detect moving objects such as animals and cars using AI, and a 6.2K/30P movie recording function, making it possible to shoot both still images and movies with a single camera. The X-M5 is perfect for a wide range of users, from first-time digital camera users to photography enthusiasts, and is particularly suitable for vloggers, storytellers and other content creators.

Equipped with Fujifilm’s rear illuminated 26.1-megapixel X-Trans™ CMOS 43 sensor and the FUJIFILM X-Processor 5 high-speed image processing engine for high-quality image capture, the X-M5 also features a Film Simulation dial on the top plate to switch between Film Simulation modes, allowing users to enjoy various colour tones as if they were changing photographic film.

The X-M5 is equipped with high-performance movie recording functions such as 6.2K/30P 4:2:2 10-bit video. In addition, the powerful digital image stabilisation and high-performance built-in microphone ensure intuitive, easy video recording. In VLOG Mode, a new 9:16 Short Movie option makes it simple to shoot vertical videos for vlogging purposes.

1. Product features

 (1) Compact and lightweight body and product design for portability and versatility

  • The camera weighs approximately 355g, with dimensions of around 111.9mm (W) x 66.6mm (H) x 38mm (D). The exceptionally lightweight and compact body design makes it easy to carry around and enjoy photography every day. Despite its compact size, the camera maintains the high-quality appearance of the X Series, and incorporates the premium, symmetrical dials on the top plate, as featured on the X-T50.

  • The Film Simulation dial is conveniently placed on the left shoulder of the top plate. Users can seamlessly switch between 20 Film Simulation modes according to the subject or scene, making it easier to enjoy a variety of colour tones in both still and moving images.
  • A mode dial sits on the top right of the camera. In AUTO mode, the camera automatically recognises the optimal shooting mode for the scene, allowing even first-time digital camera users to easily capture high-quality stills and videos.

(2) X-Trans™ CMOS 4 sensor and high-speed image processing engine deliver outstanding image quality and high-performance AF

  • The X-M5 is equipped with the back-illuminated X-Trans™ CMOS 4 sensor with approximately 26.1 megapixels and the latest high-speed X-Processor 5 image processing engine. This allows for impressive image quality combined with low power consumption.
  • The camera features subject detection AF, developed with deep learning technology, in addition to the existing Face / Eye AF. AI adds the ability to detect animals, birds, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, airplanes, trains, insects and drones4 .
  • The latest AF predictive algorithm provides excellent tracking performance for moving subjects and high precision AF in low-contrast environments.

(3) 6.2K/30P video recording and other advanced video functions

  • The X-M5 can record 6.2K/30P 4:2:2 10-bit video onto an SD card, and offers extensive video functions, including 4K/60P and 1080/240P capability.
  • The camera is equipped with powerful digital image stabilisation technology, not only to combat minor camera shake but also more vigorous movement that may occur when shooting video while walking.
  • For the first time in the FUJIFILM digital camera lineup, the camera is equipped with three built-in microphones. Users can choose from four microphone directions: surround, front, back or front & back, depending on the situation. The camera is also the first to feature a steady-state noise reduction function, which reduces noise that continues to ring at a certain frequency, such as air conditioning noise.
  • VLOG Mode allows users to change shooting conditions by touching the LCD. Improvements in the number and placement of icons make video recording even more intuitive. In addition, the new 9:16 Short Movie Mode allows users to easily shoot vertical videos popular on various social media platforms and seamlessly share the captured content.
  • New bit rates of 8 Mbps and 25 Mbps can be selected in the Media Recording Settings when shooting video. This shortens the transfer time to external devices such as smartphones, and reduces the time required to upload captured video directly to social media.
