, Nikon reaches major milestone in the production of interchangeable Lenses.

Nikon is pleased to announce that the production of NIKKOR lenses for Nikon interchangeable lens cameras has reached an impressive milestone of 120 million1 as of April 2024.

One of the few manufacturers globally to initiate its manufacturing process from the creation of optical glass, Nikon offers NIKKOR F lenses for single-lens reflex cameras and NIKKOR Z lenses for mirrorless cameras.

Celebrating the 90th anniversary of its inaugural product release in 2023, NIKKOR continues to draw inspiration from its remarkable history and technological advancements. Guided by a commitment to contribute to the development of imaging culture, Nikon remains dedicated to expanding possibilities for imaging expression, building upon the legacy of the NIKKOR brand.

The NIKKOR Brand

Since its inception in 1932 with the registration of the NIKKOR trademark by Nikon (then Nippon Kogaku K.K.), NIKKOR has been a pioneer in optical excellence. Beginning with the introduction of Aero-Nikkor aerial photographic lenses in 1933, Nikon is still one of the few manufacturers that crafts lenses starting from the production of optical glass.

From initial design to final inspection, every NIKKOR lens undergoes a meticulous process adhering to Nikon’s strict quality standards. This unwavering commitment lays the foundation for NIKKOR’s exceptional optical performance and superior quality.

Over the years, NIKKOR has consistently integrated cutting-edge technologies into its lenses, including features like aperture control, autofocus, and vibration reduction (VR). The legacy continues with NIKKOR Z lenses, specifically designed for Nikon mirrorless cameras, boasting a new mount with the industry’s largest diameter. This innovation unlocks new possibilities in lens design, increasing its capabilities in optical performance.

The wide variety of NIKKOR Z lenses released in recent years further exemplifies how Nikon is pushing boundaries. This includes the flagship NIKKOR Z 58mm f/0.95 S Noct, which set records as the fastest lens in Nikon’s history with an aperture of f/0.952.
