For over 20 years, multi-award-winning photographer and Grand Master of The Society of Photographers, Scott Johnson has been best known for his wedding photography. Now, with more studio work than ever becoming part of his business, Scott is bringing that experience into the studio.

In this hands-on evening workshop, Scott will demonstrate simple but highly effective studio lighting setups designed to take your portrait photography from average to awesome, using practical techniques you can apply straight away.

This workshop is ideal for photographers wanting to build confidence with studio lighting without overcomplicating their setups. Scott will show how simple lighting techniques can create professional-quality portraits, while explaining the thought process behind each setup.

Workshop Outline

7:00 – 7:30 PM | Welcome & Networking

Arrive, settle in, and connect with fellow photographers. A chance to chat, ask questions, and get familiar with the studio environment.

7:30 – 8:15 PM | Live Demonstration

Scott will demonstrate a series of simple yet highly effective studio lighting setups, showing how small adjustments can dramatically change the final image.

Creating strong portraits with minimal lighting
Understanding light placement and direction
Simple techniques for shaping and controlling light
Using lighting to create mood, depth, and separation
Practical setups you can recreate in your own studio space

8:15 – 8:30 PM | Refreshment Break & Cameras Ready

A short break to recharge, ask questions, and prepare your cameras for the practical shooting session.

8:30 – 9:30 PM | Hands-On Shooting Session

Delegates will have the opportunity to shoot with Scott’s lighting setups and put the techniques into practice, with guidance and feedback throughout the session.

Experiment with different looks, refine your understanding of lighting, and see how small changes can produce maximum results.
