Outdoor Events Photography Competition 2026 – Capture the Energy

Outdoor Events Photography Competition 2026

Capture the Energy. Tell the Story. Freeze the Moment.

Outdoor events are full of moments that last only seconds – the excitement of a crowd, the emotion of a performer, the drama of a sporting occasion or a spontaneous interaction that perfectly captures the atmosphere.

The Outdoor Events Photography Competition 2026 is looking for photographs that bring those moments to life.

From festivals and concerts to sporting occasions, community celebrations and spectacular outdoor performances, we’re looking for images that make the viewer feel as though they were there.

And with entry costing just £1 per image, you can enter as many photographs as you like.

What Makes Great Outdoor Event Photography?

The best event photographs do more than simply record what happened. They capture the feeling of being there.

Think about the atmosphere, the people, the location and those fleeting moments that might otherwise be missed. Sometimes the strongest photograph isn’t the biggest moment of the event – it might be a reaction in the crowd, an interaction between performers or a quiet moment that tells a much bigger story.

Capture the Atmosphere

Outdoor events are all about atmosphere.

Look for the energy and emotion of the occasion. Crowds, reactions, movement, weather, lighting and the environment can all help communicate what it felt like to be there.

Live Performances

Concerts, festivals and outdoor performances provide fantastic opportunities for creative photography.

Look for dramatic lighting, movement, expressions and interaction between performers and their audience. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different viewpoints, compositions and shutter speeds.

Sporting Moments

Outdoor sport is packed with decisive moments.

Look for action, anticipation, determination and celebration. You don’t always need to capture the biggest action – the emotion before or immediately after the moment can sometimes make an even stronger photograph.

Candid Moments

Look beyond the main event.

Genuine reactions from spectators, performers and participants can create some of the most memorable event photographs. Keep your camera ready for spontaneous interactions and expressions.

Outdoor Spectacle

Make the most of the environment around you.

Changing weather, dramatic skies, natural light, interesting locations and the scale of a large event can all add impact to your photography.

Think about how the surroundings can help tell the story rather than simply treating them as a background.

Think Creatively

Don’t simply document the event.

Experiment with perspective, composition, timing and processing. Look for unusual viewpoints, interesting layers, reflections, silhouettes, movement and details that other photographers might overlook.

Tips for Better Event Photography

Events can move quickly, so preparation and observation are key.

Be ready for the moment. Keep watching what’s happening around you rather than concentrating solely on the obvious action.

Think about your composition. Look for distracting backgrounds, clutter and unwanted elements. Moving just a few steps or changing your viewpoint can make a huge difference.

Look for the decisive moment. Anticipate what might happen next and be ready to capture genuine reactions, interactions and action as they unfold.

Tell the story. Ask yourself what your photograph says about the event. A great event photograph should give the viewer a sense of what it was like to be there.

Make your image stand out. Consider your crop carefully and take time to process the photograph so that exposure, colour, contrast and sharpness all work together.
