Hanna Neret qualifies with The Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers

Hanna submitted her panel and was recently awarded a Fellowship qualification by our fantastic team of qualified judges at our London Photo Convention IFSWPP.

Statement of Intent

My name is Hanna Neret, and I am a photographer and Photoshop artist based in Stockholm, Sweden. My work has always revolved around storytelling, and I typically lean toward a clear narrative in my art. However, with this panel, which I have chosen to title “Mind Matters” I’ve taken a different approach, exploring more abstract and loose associations. Inspired by surrealism – a movement where the unconscious mind often manifests in illogical or dreamlike scenes – I wanted to reflect the complexity and depth of our inner worlds. After all, our minds are not easily described in simple, straightforward terms.

In this series of portraits, I’ve focused on depicting various emotions, mental states, and moods—things like anxiety, creativity, anger, happiness, and more. Each image is my take on what those states feel like, using imagery which I associate with that particular state. I have deliberately chosen not to title the images or be overly explicit about the ideas behind them. My goal is for you, the viewer, to draw your own conclusions. Perhaps you’ll see something entirely different from what I had in mind, and that’s exactly the point – each mind is unique, and so are the interpretations!

I believe this panel represents the best of my creativity, technical expertise, and post-production skills. I’ve poured a lot of thought into each piece, hoping to provoke some thought, stir up new perspectives, and of course, make sure they’re visually appealing in a style that’s entirely my own. From the surreal ideas to the nitpicky editing, it’s all been a labour of love (and maybe a little bit of madness…).
