A statement from the organisers of the photography show & the video show
The organisers of The Photography Show & The Video Show have announced today that they will be taking this year’s show online due to the continued uncertainty around hosting large events. They will host a virtual photography and video festival over two days on Sunday, 20 and Monday, 21 September 2020. The next show at the NEC will run between 18 and 21 September 2021.
Jonny Sullens, head of events at Future, said: “While we believe that there’s nothing quite comparable to the benefits of the live show, we know that the decision to take The Photography Show & The Video Show online this year and return to the NEC in 2021 is the best solution for our community during these unprecedented times.
He continued: “Of course, we’re very disappointed not to be making the annual trip to Birmingham, but we’re really excited about what the virtual event can offer. The virtual platform we’re using is incredibly versatile and provides us with a fantastic opportunity to try something new, showing off photography and video in a different way. We look forward to seeing everyone in September, albeit virtually!”
In support of the decision, Tracey Fielden, Marketing Director, Canon UK&I, said: “The current situation has challenged us all to think differently about the way we do things – from customer engagement, to events and trade show participation, we’ve had to adapt our approach.
“The Photography and Video Show is one of the highlights of the year and brings together everything that’s great about the industry we work in and most importantly the ability to interact with our customers. I know it’s been a tough decision for the team at Future to make, but we fully support the creation of a virtual TPS and are excited to see how the plans develop and what possibilities the new format will provide. We are already working collaboratively with the team on what Canon will bring to the event.”
Andreas Georghiades, Marketing Manager – Electronic Imaging, Fujifilm UK added: “At FUJIFILM, we love The Photography Show & The Video Show, it’s the industry equivalent to Christmas!! We understand that difficult decisions have had to be made but we support the team at Future and are fully behind the format. We know the virtual edition will be different, but working in a creative industry like we do, we should embrace different and change and we plan to do whatever we can to help make the show a great success.”
Reiterating the support, Claire Voyle, Marketing Product Specialist – Consumer Imaging, Olympus UK said: “Olympus have embraced a new way of working online keeping our community connected and interactive – we’re running virtual workshops, webinars and 1-2-1 video call sessions with our experts, demonstrating Olympus kit and sharing photo project ideas to keep active. We completely support the decision to take The Photography Show & The Video Show online: we’re so excited to see how the virtual show comes together, and are really looking forward to taking part!” The virtual show will be free to attend and all entry tickets and passes booked or confirmed for the March 2020 event will be valid for the 2021 dates.
