XEEN CF Wins iF Design Award 2020, for Excellent Design and Usability
Global optics brand Samyang Optics celebrates winning the iF Design Award 2020 for its XEEN CF cine prime lenses. The compact and lightweight design, maximising usability was highly recognised by the jury.
Organised by the iF International Forum Design GmbH, Germany in 1953, the ‘iF Design Award’ is one of the top 3 acclaimed international design competitions along with the ‘Red Dot Design Award’ and ‘IDEA Design Award’. It is recognised as a symbol of design excellence. Submitted designs are evaluated comprehensively, not only for aesthetics, but also for functionality, usage value, usability, ergonomics and practicability.
XEEN CF was launched in September 2019 by Samyang Optics, to meet the needs of latest trends in digital cinematography. After in-depth meetings with cinematographers around the world, XEEN CF lenses were developed with a compact design and flexible usage, integrating robust carbon fibre, whilst maintaining high image quality for large sensors. Weighing less than 0.9kg (2.0lbs), they combine create stunning images with countless camera setups, from large cinema cameras to drones and gimbals.
A luminous font was used for easier operation in dark situations behind the camera. The 95mm (3.74″) front diameter is compact and the aligned focus and aperture gear rings throughout the lineup makes it easier to add accessory gears such as follow focus systems and matte boxes. The carbon fibre also adds a futuristic style to the lens body design, reflecting the creativity of cinematographers – this was also highly recognised for its aesthetic.
Additionally noted was the outstanding resolution of XEEN CF, with 8K support and unique X-coating technology to maximise the delicate emotions of performers and rich scene details. The bright maximum aperture of T1.5 offers beautiful bokeh and low light performance.
Three focal lengths of XEEN CF are currently available: 24mm T1.5, 50mm T1.5 and 85mm T1.5. Two more focal lengths: 16mm T2.6 and 35mm T1.5 will be introduced during the first quarter of 2020, to complete the set of 5 XEEN CF prime cine lenses.
