Plymouth Fine Art Photographer Kirsteen Titchener Shortlisted for International Awards
Plymouth photographer, Kirsteen Titchener has been shortlisted for two international awards for her work.
Kirsteen from Stoke, will be going up against some of the world’s most renowned photographers in The Societies’ Photographer of the Year 2014 awards. She is a finalist in two categories – Portrait Avant Garde Photographer of the Year and The Societies’ Photographer of the Year. A tremendous achievement for Kirsteen, who has only been taking photos for 5 years and producing Fine Art photos since the beginning of 2014.
Kirsteen Titchener says: “It is incredibly exciting to be nominated for this prestigious annual award by The Societies’ Judges. Creating fine art photographic images has been an increasingly important part of my photographic work through 2014. The Societies’ nomination for Photographer of the Year for an image entered for the Portrait Avant Garde Category is a wonderful way to finish the year and spur me on to keep on developing new skills and creating new images for 2015.”
Kirsteen, a former research fellow in the Psychology department at Plymouth University has been a keen amateur photographer for several years. In 2011 she took her hobby to the next level by setting up a business called Menagerie Photography, taking photos of pets. Her Societies’ nominations are for her Fine Art photography project, Morag Photography. Her work is inspired by human thoughts and emotions and is represented in dream-like worlds. It’s one of these images, entitled ‘The Grip’ that has caught the attention of the judges and made Kirsteen stand out from the thousands of other entries.
The Societies is Europe’s largest all-welcome association for the serious photographer. Over 12,500 images were entered into the competition and photographers from all around the globe have been putting forward their images making this a truly international competition.
Phil Jones The Societies’ CEO says, “This year we have seen a fantastic range of images and the standard has been very high. The finalist represent some of the finest images entered in to the competition and have competed against some of the world’s best photographers. Congratulations to all our finalists.”
This is the first photography award Kirsteen has been shortlisted for, and what a first! She will have to wait until the New Year to find out how she has got on, The Societies’ 2015 Convention Awards Dinner will take on 17 January 2015 in London.
