Essence of Nature Photographic Competition Winners Announced

David Morton

The Society of Nature and Wildlife Photographers have announced the winners of the Essence of Nature Photographic Competition.

For this competition, photographers were asked to submit images that captured anything from animals living in their natural environment to fantastic landscapes and scenery.

David Morton from Wellington, Somerset was chosen as the winner from over 200 images entered into the competition, with the image entitled ‘Red-Footed Falcons Mating’. The photograph was taken on a Canon 5D3, Canon 500mm f/4.0 lens, 1250 ISO, aperture f/7.1 at 1/500 second lens at the Hortobagy National Park in Hungary.

David recollected

“It was a pre-dawn start to get in the hide without disturbing the birds, and a 14 hour day in sweltering temperatures. This resulted in some great images of these stunning birds in full swing for the breeding season.”

David has won 12 months membership to The Society of Nature and Wildlife Photographers (SINWP).

Phil Jones, The Societies CEO says,

“This image has captured the theme in its entirety. The photograph has a very strong narrative as the deceive moment and it has been excellently captured. The competition had a very high standard which made judging very difficult, the range of entries was very broad and we have seen everything from dragonflies to swimming lions and everything in between. We enjoy viewing all the images entered and we are looking forward to another bumper crop of images entered in to the Close Up photography competition”.

The runners-up Peter Preece from Studley, Warwickshire and Armindo Pereira Torres from Portugal have both been awarded 6 months membership to the SINWP photographic organisation.
