Pets are part of the family. They make us laugh, keep us company and, for many of us, create some of our most treasured memories.

Now we want to see the photographs that capture exactly what makes your favourite animal so special.

The Pet Photography Competition 2026 is open to photographers of all abilities and from around the world, and we’re looking for images that showcase the personality, character, emotion and unique charm of our much-loved pets.

Whether you’ve photographed a beautifully lit studio portrait, a playful action shot, a hilarious moment or a quiet image that perfectly captures the bond between an animal and its owner, we’d love to see it.

Enter Your Best Pet Photography

You don’t need to be a professional pet photographer to enter.

Your subject could be a dog bounding through a field, a cat caught in a wonderfully expressive moment, a horse enjoying time outdoors, a rabbit showing off its personality or something completely unexpected.

We’re looking for photographs that tell a story and make us stop, smile, laugh or feel something.

Dogs, cats, horses, rabbits and everything in between are welcome.

The competition is a celebration of the incredible variety of pet photography and the creativity involved in photographing animals that are often anything but predictable!

What Makes a Great Pet Photograph?

A great pet photograph isn’t necessarily about having the most expensive camera or the most elaborate setup.

Sometimes it’s about being ready at exactly the right moment.

Look for the expressions, behaviours and little details that make your animal unique. Consider the light, background and composition, but don’t be afraid to capture the unexpected either.

A funny expression, a burst of energy, a quiet moment of affection or a photograph showing the relationship between a pet and their owner can all make a memorable competition image.

Most importantly, capture the personality of your subject.

Enter for Just £1 Per Image

Entry to the Pet Photography Competition is just £1 GBP per image.

That means you can enter one favourite photograph or submit a whole collection of your best pet photography.

Enter as many images as you like.

If you’ve got a fantastic photograph of your dog, cat, horse, rabbit, bird or any other much-loved companion sitting on your hard drive, this could be the perfect opportunity to give it the spotlight it deserves.

Competition Prizes

The overall winner will receive one year of Free Digital Membership of any of our Societies.

The opportunity to work towards qualifications and distinctions through image submissions

No cash alternatives will be given.

Who Can Enter?

The competition is open to all photographers.

You don’t need to be a member of The Societies to enter, and we’re keen to see photographs from photographers at every level.

Whether you’re an experienced professional pet photographer, an enthusiast who loves photographing your own animals or simply captured an unforgettable pet photograph by chance, you’re welcome to enter.

Competition Rules

Before entering, please make sure your images meet the following requirements:

The work must be that of the entrant.
No entry will be eligible if it has been made under the supervision of an instructor or as a class assignment.
Images submitted must be no larger than 2000 pixels wide.
All entrants must be able to supply a high-resolution image at 300dpi.
No distinguishing marks may appear on the images.
Copyright remains with the photographer. The Societies recognises that the entrant and author of the photograph retains complete and full ownership of the copyright in each submission.
Entries may be used by The Societies for publicity purposes, including publication in Professional Imagemaker and other promotional activities.
The competition closes 30 November 2026.
The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
