Light Revolution launches motorised creative lighting and camera platform for the movie and photographic industry
British commercial photographer and inventor Patrick Llewelyn-Davies has announced the introduction of a multi-platform lighting and camera system that is set to transform product and still life photography.
Light Revolution is a motorised lighting solution that moves around the subject to generate circles of light, creating beautifully detailed images of the objects – and can be programmed to be repeated time after time. Ideal for busy in-house studio photography, the system has a multitude of uses in other areas including cultural heritage, universities, e-commerce and the filmmaking industry. It can also be configured to shoot 360 degree product videos, or to produce short movie title sequences with its creative lighting effects.
Llewelyn-Davies started his career shooting on large format film and producing special effects in camera. Having always enjoyed using different lighting sources and techniques, he began experimenting with painting with light to create extraordinary images, but discovered that it was almost impossible to achieve the same effect twice.
As a result, Llewelyn-Davies established Light Revolution Ltd to manufacture and sell the creative lighting system, enabling others to use his techniques in their own work, and to develop the system further for use in other fields, such as photogrammetry.
The system can be configured precisely to deliver many different lighting effects from emulating a ring flash through to a very hard, intense light, which is perfect for revealing fine textures. In this mode, the system works particularly well on metallic and highly textured subjects including metal, food, plastics, liquids and natural materials enabling unique, dramatic imagery to be created.
