How to pass your ASWPP

Barsac

Andy Percy

Why consider doing an Associate. What is the journey like, what are the challenges and what are the benefits.

I’ll give you an overview of how I approached mine, starting with having an inspiring big idea and then all the detailed planning I did at every step.

I’ll explain why you should start by writing your Statement of Intent, what it is, how to write it, and I’ll share examples from other photographers who passed.

I’ll share practical tools to brainstorm your exciting big idea and how I brought my vision to life before I picked up the camera.

I’ll deconstruct the A panel in detail: the do’s and don’ts, the layout, they key elements you have to nail. I’ll explain the 10 elements of a great photo and what the judges are looking for at Associate level.

I’ll explain why a test shoot is a critical step in passing your A panel.

I’ll share behind the scenes images from my test shoot, as well as the in-depth lighting diagrams it helped me draw and perfect for consistent results every time.

guidance for how to book and deal with models and more.

I will also share the top 15 common mistakes that lead to failed panels, covering: model posing, lighting, props, colour harmony and the essential editing mistakes to get right at all costs.

I’ll then bring this learning to life by examining previously successful A panels.

The session closes with the importance of mentoring and a selection of personal advice from other acclaimed FSWPP at The Society of Photographers.
