Therese Asplund is an internationally acclaimed fine art portrait photographer from Sweden, celebrated for her distinctive style and creative vision. Over the past fifteen years, she has received numerous prestigious awards both in Sweden and internationally.

Therese’s portraits range from timeless, painterly compositions to bold, modern images inspired by fashion, commercial, and contemporary art. She is passionate about the fundamentals of photography—especially lighting—and pays meticulous attention to location, styling, and in-camera composition. Much of what you see in her work is captured just as it appeared through the lens.

Her images are recognised for their playful creativity, impeccable lighting, and exceptional technical quality, as well as the emotional connection she draws from her subjects. Hair styling, makeup, and wardrobe are essential elements of her storytelling, and she often handles these herself as part of the creative process.

Therese’s accolades include being a nine-time Swedish Champion, eight-time Camera Winner (Top 3) in the FEP Awards, multiple Top 3 placements and the Overall Winner title in the WPE Awards 2023, five Photographer of the Year titles, and Overall First Runner-Up in The Societies’ (SWPP) Monthly Image Competition and 20×16” Print Competition. In 2022, she was named Grand Prix Winner in the Trierenberg Super Circuit, and in 2025, she received the prestigious “Luminance Award” at the Icon Awards in Las Vegas.

She holds the titles of Double Master QEP with the Federation of European Photographers (FEP) and Senior Master with WPE. A trained judge, Therese has served on judging panels in Sweden and abroad, including for the QEP and MQEP qualifications in 2023.

With nearly two decades of experience running her own portrait studio and over fifteen years working with commercial clients, Therese brings both artistry and professionalism to every project. She is a global ambassador for Elinchrom International and Canson Infinity, and a Nikon Europe Creator. She frequently delivers talks, workshops, and live shoots both in Sweden and internationally.

Passionate about education and community, she runs the Play to Learn Workshops—a unique concept that combines photo trips with creative learning experiences. These events offer photographers unforgettable memories, valuable knowledge, and lasting friendships.

Her work has been featured in numerous photographic publications across Sweden and beyond. In 2023, she launched her own Art Shop to showcase and sell her photographic art.

“In an interview at school when I was six, I said I wanted to ‘draw drawings for people to make them happy.’ Forty-plus years later, that’s essentially what I do! With the same wild imagination as my six-year-old self, I dream up beautiful (or crazy!) stylings, find new ways to use light, and direct my models into character—so I can ‘draw drawings’ with my camera, tell stories, spark curiosity, and, hopefully, make people happy.”
