DxO’s Optics Modules offer unparalleled corrections, including unique lens softness improvements and distortion corrections that maximize field of view. DxO’s software now corrects more than 80,000 lens and camera combinations.

Paris (France): DxO, the company that has pioneered calibration-based optical corrections for 20 years, today announces its latest batch of Optics Modules. The release of 1,693 DxO Optics Modules includes support for the Canon EOS R6 Mark II, the Fujifilm X-T5, the Sony A7R V, five lenses from Sigma, and more.

For quality-conscious photographers, DxO Optics Modules are a wealth of individually tailored, laboratory-grade corrections, which present the most accurate and powerful route to improving image quality on the market. Superior to other optical correction software, DxO’s adjustments vastly improve results, whether they are applied to entry-level lenses or professional-grade glass.

Essentially, the performance of any lens can be boosted by processing RAW files with DxO software: PhotoLab, PureRAW, FilmPack, and ViewPoint.

A unique approach to defeating lens softness

All correction software offers digital sharpening to combat lens softness, but DxO’s approach is unique and superior, taking into account the varying levels of sharpness across a lens’s entire field of view. Rather than applying general sharpening across the entire image (as with lesser software), DxO Optics Modules target sharpening as required, such as when a lens gets progressively softer towards its edges.

As seen with the Sigma 65mm F2 DG DN, the boost in image quality by DxO Optics Modules makes it perform better in terms of sharpness and distortion (while also eliminating vignetting and aberrations). As illustrated below, nowhere is this clearer than in combating lens softness.

The uncorrected lens displays a significant difference in sharpness between the center of the frame and the corners.

Typically, photo editing software uses a generic profile to make a global correction across the entire image based on the sharpening required at the center.

Edge of frame sharpening from Adobe Lightroom® (left) and DxO Optics Modules (right). Unlike Adobe Lightroom, DxO Optics Modules are able to progressively increase corrections away from the frame’s center, allowing for a sharper overall image.

Sophisticated distortion corrections deliver greater image area

DxO’s Optics Modules frequently deliver a greater image area thanks to more refined assessments when correcting distortions. When needed, DxO Optics Modules give photographers the option to gain extra image area when compared with the crop applied as the result of Lightroom’s corrections.

Intelligent control of chromatic aberration

In addition, DxO’s Optics Modules remove chromatic aberrations — both longitudinal, and lateral. Chromatic aberrations vary depending on the focal length and distance, and DxO’s algorithms take these into account in order to perform more accurate corrections. Colored outlines are removed without degrading the image’s color or detail.

Vignetting accurately removed

Finally, vignetting is resolved, correcting the darker edges of the frame that can occur in certain lenses and at specific focal lengths.

The most exacting science, the highest quality

Each DxO Optics Module is created using individual camera and lens combinations. This means that any minor differences in the performance of a sensor can be measured across all the examples of it in a manufacturer’s lens mount range.

For instance, with the new Optics Modules for the Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS S, measurements were not made using just a single full-frame Alpha camera, but with almost every Sony camera on the market.

Latest DxO Optics Modules

The latest DxO Optics Modules update — available now — includes the following cameras and lenses, each optimized for specific camera and lens combinations:

Canon EOS R6 Mark II

Fujifilm X-T5

OM System OM-5

DxO Labs, the company that invented optical corrections for digital photography, has completed its detailed analysis of nine new lenses and added them to its list of supported equipment.

DxO now offers photographers access to more than 77,000 camera and lens combinations across its software – DxO PhotoLab, PureRAW, ViewPoint, FilmPack, and Nik Collection – offering unrivaled quality.

Photographers receive corrections that are tailor-made for their specific equipment as each new Optics Module is created from individual camera and lens combinations – not simply the lens on its own. As a result, DxO offers the most complete and high-quality approach to optical correction.

The latest update — available now — includes the following lenses:

Canon RF 24mm F1.8 Macro IS STM

Nikkor Z 28-75mm F2.8

HD Pentax-D FA 21mm F2.4 ED Limited DC WR

HD Pentax-FA 31mm F1.8 Limited

HD Pentax-FA 43mm F1.9 Limited

HD Pentax-FA 77mm F1.8 Limited

Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | C

Sigma 35mm F2 DG DN | C

Sony E 11mm F1.8

“We’re committed to giving photographers the best possible results from their gear, and we’re delighted to add these nine new lenses,” explained Marie-Catherine Fargnoli, DxO Product Owner and Laboratory Manager. “DxO has never used off-the-shelf lens corrections and no other software company matches the quality that we’re able to achieve through the work carried out in our laboratory.”

Two decades of innovation

Almost 20 years ago, DxO created the world’s first lens corrections in its unique, purpose-built laboratory. Today, DxO’s Optics Modules continue to lead the industry thanks to their quality and precision.

What makes DxO’s corrections superior?

DxO creates an exclusive set of characteristics as it assesses lenses and cameras together, rather than simply assessing a lens on its own. These bespoke optical corrections offer two significant advantages:

DxO Optics Modules assess 100% of the pixel area as being the true field of capture. Other solutions — including those from camera brands and competitor software — are forced to crop the resolution when reducing optical distortion. Compared to the competition, DxO Optics Modules can keep up to 10% more pixels.

DxO delivers tailor-made adjustments and corrections across each lens’s field of view thanks to an exclusive lens sharpness algorithm. Unlike the standard lens libraries used by other software, sharpening is applied at different levels according to a lens’s unique characteristics. For example, sharpening increases towards the edge of the frame to account for subtle changes in radial softness.

DxO Optics Modules also correct the following imperfections as standard:

Vignetting

Geometric distortions

Longitudinal and lateral chromatic aberrations

In addition, DxO’s Optics Modules are the only way to benefit from anamorphic deformation compensation — exclusive technology that restores the natural proportions of a scene or subject after it has been distorted by a wide-angle lens. This means that using shorter focal lengths is no longer an issue when photographing large groups of people (particularly at weddings), or in landscape and architectural photography.

Exclusively distributed in the UK and Ireland by Holdan, the new AF 24-70mm F2.8 FE is a wide-angle to short telephoto lens designed for E-mount mirrorless cameras.

Holdan, a specialist distributor to the professional video, broadcast and photography sector, has today announced Samyang’s first zoom lens is exclusively available to them in the UK and Ireland.

Samyang’s new E-mount standard zoom lens AF 24-70mm F2.8 FE, is designed for E-mount 35mm full-frame and APS-C mirrorless cameras.

Samyang Optics’ first zoom lens

This year, Samyang Optics is celebrating the 50th year since its foundation and is marking the landmark occasion with its first ever Zoom model.

Originally a manual focus lens specialist, Samyang expanded its line-up to include autofocus models during 2016, whilst celebrating its 45th anniversary. After 5 years of in-depth research and communication with customers, Samyang has now decided to take a step closer to the mass market and meet more photographers’ needs, with the launch of an all-in-one Zoom.

Lens standards are constantly changing and Samyang is launching this AF 24-70mm F2.8 FE lens as the most versatile and universal lens of all time. Some may consider that the market is filled with similar focal lengths already, however Samyang has taken additional steps to innovate:

It has developed an all-in-one zoom lens, suitable for taking outstanding still images as well as video and added several features, optimised for video shooting, to a photo zoom lens. This effectively captures the trend change of users who need the flexibility of not only photography but also video shooting.

In addition to a zoom lens that reflects consumer needs for video shooting and video-specialised functions, Samyang exclusive accessories allow users to further enjoy functions available on existing professional Cine lenses with this new Samyang zoom lens.

David Fidler, Divisional Director, Holdan commented:

“We are incredibly proud to represent Samyang as their exclusive distribution partner in the UK and Ireland. Their lens technology has been built over 50 years and today’s announcement is another clear indication they will continue to push the boundaries of innovation within our competitive marketplace.”

AF 24-70mm F2.8 FE Key Features

Features optimised for video shooting

1) Par-Focal: This function maintains focus on the subject when zooming in and out. It is a feature optimised for video shooting and normally seen on very expensive cine zoom lenses.

2) Cinematic Video AF: As the AF speed is carefully controlled during video recording, focus wobble is reduced, so very stable video recording is possible.

3) Linear MF Focus Control: Provides convenience to video shooters by matching the torque of the focus ring as closely as possible to that of a manual focus lens when shooting video in manual mode.

4) Cine Kit: A Samyang ‘Cine Kit’, consisting of focus gearing, follow focus and tripod mount, is available separately. This allows system exchange at the same time as lens change (with small configuration), so manoeuvrability is very good. In addition, a mount kit and follow focus are provided, allowing essential elements of video shooting at the same time.

Excellent resolution in all areas of the image

This zoom lens delivers a 24-70mm (wide-angle to short-telephoto) angle of view and a bright maximum aperture of F2.8 throughout the entire zoom range, as preferred by full-frame camera users. In particular, optimum resolution is achieved through the optical design of 17 elements in 14 groups (2 ASP, 1 H-ASP, 3 HR and 3 ED). Combined with Sony’s full-frame image sensor, this zoom lens delivers superior sharpness and contrast in all areas of the image.

Impressive background blur and bokeh with bright F2.8 aperture

The AF 24-70mm F2.8 FE zoom uses a large-diameter aperture to provide smooth background blur. It effectively separates the subject from the background, using a shallow depth of field to capture a unique image of an ultra-wide angle in which the background is compressed. The 9 diaphragm blades create smooth and natural bokeh with light splitting.

Enhanced usability with custom switch

There is a custom switch, which can be set allow adjustment of the aperture by rotating the focus ring. Using the optional Lens Station, you can setup the mode to suit your own preference*.

* More functions will be added through firmware updates in the future

Fast and quiet AF performance

Tracking the subject accurately and quickly, the AF also operates quietly and smoothly when shooting video. Samyang’s Linear STM (Stepping Motor) satisfies both photographers and videographers with quieter and more accurate control of the larger and heavier focusing lens groups which occur in zoom lenses.

Short minimum focal distance

The minimum focal distance is just 35cm, so it is versatile and possible to produce a unique perspective close to the subject. It makes it easier to take portraits with exaggerated features, food on tables and interior shots in narrow spaces.

Weather-Sealing design

The usability of the AF 24-70mm F2.8 FE lens has been developed and enhanced, taking into consideration not only the design but also the user’s shooting environment. It has a micro-patterned rubber focus ring, so feels great to operate and weather-sealing also protects the lens from light rain, snow and dust.

XEEN CF

Cine Prime Lens Set Ready for Global Filming Trend
Samyang introduced the XEEN brand in 2015 to expand the cinematography field with more than 40 years of expertise in creating highly-acclaimed image quality in photography. After in-depth meetings with cinematographers around the world, the XEEN team then started to develop a lens which would meet the upcoming trend for smaller and lighter equipment. As a result, XEEN CF was introduced in late 2019, with a compact design and flexible usage, integrating robust carbon fibre, whilst maintaining high image quality for large sensors. Thanks to the 2 new additions, the XEEN CF cine prime lineup is now complete, offering 5 focal lengths including: 16mm T2.6, 24mm T1.5, 35mm T1.5, 50mm T1.5 and 85mm T1.5.

Compact and Flexible for Diverse Filming Situations
XEEN “CF” stands for “Compact and Flexible”, which highlights the compact size and versatility of the lenses. For example, the XEEN CF 16mm weighs just 0.9kg (2.0lbs) and measures 82.3mm (3.24in) height. This compact size reflects and leads the trend in cinematography and videography. It is ideal, not only for large cinematography camera setups, but also for drone and gimbal setups which require a more compact and lighter lens. XEEN CF is also compatible with large image sensor cameras, with its 43.3mm image circle. Cinematographers now can create countless images with one lens, enjoying the flexibility of equipment operation. The use of carbon fibre in the XEEN CF lens barrel makes it lighter, but sturdier than others with metal barrels and gives a touch of future-oriented design.

Capture Delicate Emotions in 8K
As the vice president of the ASC, Bill Bennett quoted, “the new XEEN CF lenses show faces in a most beautiful way, with smooth and subtle transitions”. With 8K support and unique X-coating technology, internal light reflections are effectively controlled to create a distinctive look and dramatic effects. They provide smooth, soft and dreamy bokeh when wide open and become crystal sharp when stopped down. This allows directors to maximise the delicate emotions of performers, while richly depicting the scene.

Main Features

Bright T1.5 and T2.6 apertures for low-light filming & control over feeling of depth.

Compatible with large image sensors (43.3mm image circle).

X-Coating provides distinctive look, controls reflection & produces dramatic images.

11 aperture blades create beautiful, circular bokeh.

Carbon Fibre in lens barrel delivers light weight and durability.

Standard Ø95mm front size is fully compatible with matte boxes.

Available in PL, Canon EF and Sony E mount.

Luminous paint used for model and distance markings allows effortless use, even in extremely low-light environments

Focus and aperture ring locations uniform across all models, with improved gear design and weighting for smooth rotation.

Consistent 200-degree wide angle of rotation enables fine focus adjustment.

Bidirectional scale on both sides of lens body enables easy verification & operation.
