Transcontinenta UK Ltd, distributor for Tamron UK and Ireland, announces the Tamron 150-500mm F/5-6.7 Di III VC VXD (Model A057) for full-frame Nikon Z-mount.

The 150-500mm F5-6.7 lens has a focal length of 500mm on the telephoto end, yet it provides remarkably compact size and extremely high image quality throughout the entire zoom range. It lets users enjoy spontaneous shooting in the ultra-tele realm, where conventional wisdom once dictated a tripod. The ultra-telephoto zoom is equipped with the VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) precise and high-speed linear motor autofocus mechanism and TAMRON’s proprietary VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism. At the 150mm end, this versatile lens offers an MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.6m for powerful and dramatic close-ups.

Product Highlights

A compact full-frame 500mm lens that defies old-fashioned thinking
The 150-500mm F5-6.7 is just 212.3mm long with a maximum diameter of 93mm, an astoundingly compact size for a 500mm-class ultra-telephoto zoom for full-frame mirrorless cameras. Even when extended to the 500mm telephoto end, the lens is still remarkably compact at only about 287.3mm. On a Nikon Z APS-C mirrorless camera, the effective focal length will be equivalent to a 225-750mm zoom range, due to the crop factor.

Remarkable image quality
The optical construction features 25 elements in 16 groups. The generous and effective use of special lens elements ensures exceptional image quality. This includes one XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion), five LD (Low Dispersion), and two Hybrid Aspherical lens elements. These elements thoroughly control aberrations, including axial chromatic aberrations. As a result, users can enjoy exceptionally high resolving power across the entire image, from edge-to-edge.

VXD AF motor provides high speed, high precision, and excellent quietness
The 150-500mm F5-6.7 features VXD linear motor autofocus mechanism. VXD delivers high-speed and high-precision movement and ensures responsive performance. Even when shooting at 500mm, the lens provides fast and accurate focusing from near to far. Also, the high-performance focus tracking allows successful capture of fast-moving subjects. Superbly quiet, the linear motor also reduces drive noise and vibrations produced during focusing (as compared to a conventional drive system), making it ideal for shooting both still photos and video in low-noise environments.

TAMRON’s highly acclaimed VC provides excellent image stabilization
This compact 150-500mm F5-6.7 is equipped with TAMRON’s VC mechanism to deliver excellent image stabilization performance, thereby efficiently reducing image blur caused by camera shake. This functionality supports handheld shooting of scenes in low light, such as evening and indoor, without the use of a tripod. Due to the design and functionality of the Nikon Z camera, the VC (Vibration Compensation) should be toggled ON or OFF directly on the camera body. As a result, there is no dedicated switch on the lens for this purpose.

Telephoto-macro feature unlocks exciting close-range shooting experiences
The 150-500mm F5-6.7 offers exceptional close-up shooting capabilities for an ultra-telephoto lens. The MOD is 0.6m at the 150mm end and 1.8m at the 500mm telephoto end. The maximum magnification ratio at 150mm is extremely high at 1:3.1. Users can shoot powerful telephoto-macro images of subjects while maintaining a reasonable shooting distance.

Equipped with a “Linear / Non-linear” switch
The Nikon Z mount version comes equipped with a Linear/Non-Linear switch, enhancing the manual focusing experience. This feature offers flexibility, allowing you to tailor your shooting based on the scenario, especially when aiming for precision on distant subjects. In the Non-Linear mode, the focus movement varies with the speed at which you rotate the focus ring. Meanwhile, in the Linear mode, the focus movement is determined by the angle to which you turn the focus ring. Notably, in LINEAR mode, rotating the focus ring continuously will shift the focus from the Minimum Object Distance (MOD) to infinity in a 360° span.

Compatible with Tamron Lens Utility Software
The TAMRON Lens Utility software allows users to configure their compatible lenses directly from a computer. The software allows not only the setting of various lens functions, but also firmware updates. It offers personal customization for flexible shooting options tailored to different scenarios, including still photography and videography. These personal configurations allow photographers to tailor the lens to their specific shooting needs. For connection, the lens is simply plugged into its USB-C connector port.

Expanded versatility with excellent close-range shooting performance
At the 35mm wide-angle end, the MOD of the 35-150mm F2-2.8 is 0.33m (13in), achieving a maximum magnification ratio of 1:5.7. This allows users to concentrate on shooting without worrying about the distance to the subject and enables compositions that leverage the fast wide-open F2-2.8 aperture to produce high levels of background blurring while capturing the subject in enlarged detail.

TAMRON Lens UtilityTM expands the possibilities of photo and video shooting
The 35-150mm F2-2.8 zoom is compatible with the dedicated TAMRON Lens Utility software developed in-house by TAMRON. It empowers users to easily update the lens to the latest firmware without going through the camera, and also includes functions to support focusing operations and other actions when shooting still images or video. By utilizing a wide range of functions, users can expand the breadth of expression. For example, A-B Focus allows users to limit focusing to two pre-set focus points, shifting focus from one subject to another with just a click of the Focus Set Button. Users can also choose between Linear and Non-linear, which affects how the focus shifts during manual focusing.
