“FE 70-200MM F4 Macro G OSS II” telephoto zoom lens with compact and lightweight design.

World’s first[1] half-macro shooting with a maximum magnification of 0.5x throughout the zoom range

12th July 2023, Sony introduces the telephoto zoom lens “FE 70-200MM F4 Macro G OSS II” (product name SEL70200G2) that covers focal lengths from 70mm to 200mm with an F4 maximum aperture, compatible with 35mm full-frame α™ (Alpha™) E-mount series.

The FE 70-200MM F4 Macro G OSS II is a compact, lightweight telephoto zoom lens that can be used in a wide range of situations. Not only does the FE 70-200MM F4 Macro G OSS II contain superb high-speed and high-performance AF that are unique to G lenses, this is the world’s first1 zoom lens to offer half macro capability throughout the zoom range, with a maximum magnification of 0.5x[2] throughout. In addition, with a teleconverter (sold separately[3]), super-telephoto shooting up to 400mm and life-size 1:1 magnification macro shooting throughout the entire zoom range is possible[4].

This launch marks Sony’s 50th full-frame E-mount lens[5]. Since the very first lens, Sony has remained committed to supporting the creative activities of photographers and videographers by bringing together the latest technologies and expanding the E-mount lineup that covers both full-frame and APS-C size formats.

A compact and lightweight model capable of excellent shooting from distant to close-up, and compatible with a teleconverter

With a total length of 149mm and a weight of approximately 794g (excluding tripod mount), the FE 70-200MM F4 Macro G OSS II is zoom lens can be used for a wide range of purposes, including sports scenes, landscapes, wild birds, and even macro photography.

Shooting from 70mm to 200mm, the lens also enables the world’s first1 half-macro shooting2, with a maximum magnification of 0.5x throughout the zoom range. The advanced aspherical lenses contribute to uniformly excellent corner-to-corner resolution and contrast. In addition, ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass suppresses chromatic aberration.

It also supports a high-performance teleconverter[6] (sold separately3). With a super-telephoto of up to 400 mm (equivalent to 600 mm when using with an APS-C camera)4, you can capture distant subjects in a larger size, along with beautiful bokeh. When the SEL20TC is attached, it is possible to take macro shots at up to 1:1 over the entire zoom range.

Fast autofocus and excellent video recording performance

Sony’s unique XD (extreme dynamic) linear motor increases the autofocus speed by up to 20%[7]. Tracking performance for moving objects has also improved approximately twice as much compared to the previous model7, so it continues to track the target subject with high accuracy. Whilst focus tracking performance during zooming has also been greatly improved[8]. When paired with the flagship α1 body, it is possible to shoot high-speed bursts at up to 30 frames per second.

In addition, a new MODE3[9] setting of SteadyShot has been added that optimises the camera shake correction algorithm, emphasising framing stability when shooting moving subjects. By combining with a compatible camera body, you can more effectively compensate for camera shake and shoot stable movies.

Intuitive operability and high reliability for safe use in harsh shooting environment

The FE 70-200MM F4 Macro G OSS II provides intuitive and secure operability that supports the photographers and videographers. In addition to a focus range limiter and a full-time DMF switch that instantly switches from AF to MF (manual focus), the detachable tripod mount included in the box provides a sense of stability during super-telephoto and macro shooting.

In addition, the front lens element features a fluorine coating, which makes it easy to remove fingerprints, dust, oil, and other contaminants from the lens surface. The dust and moisture resistant design provides extra reliability for outdoor use in challenging conditions[10] and expands the freedom of shooting.

Pricing and Availability

The new FE 70-200MM F4 Macro G OSS II will be available in September for approximately £1750. It will be sold at a variety of Sony’s authorised dealers throughout Europe.

A variety of exclusive stories, videos and exciting new content shot with the newest cameras and other Sony products can be found

Production of EOS Series cameras reaches 110 million mark through Canon’s pursuit of “Speed, Comfort and High Image Quality”
EOS, or Electro Optical System, is also the name of the Greek goddess of the dawn. Canon’s EOS system debuted alongside the EF series of interchangeable lenses in March 1987 as the world’s first fully-electronic mount system for silver halide film AF SLR cameras. During the dawn of digital SLR cameras, Canon introduced its breakthrough EOS 300D (EOS Digital Rebel or EOS Kiss Digital in other regions) in September 2003. Since that time, Canon has continued to launch a range of groundbreaking products, including the professional-model EOS-1D series and the EOS 5D series, which paved the way for digital SLR video recording. Canon’s desire to further expand the boundaries of visual expression led to its next-generation EOS R System, launched in October 2018. By striving to expand its lineup of attractive products to meet a diverse range of needs, Canon’s EOS series has gained and maintained the support of many users over the years. As a result, the company has maintained the world’s No. 1 share3 of digital SLR cameras over 20 years, from 2003 to 2022. Then in 2003, during the early years of the digital camera age, the Company released in Japan the groundbreaking EOS 300D Digital (EOS Digital Rebel or EOS Kiss Digital in other regions), an entry-level digital SLR camera that realized a compact, lightweight body at an affordable price. This move would trigger a massive expansion of the camera market, with Canon claiming the overwhelming lead in market share that same year. In addition, Canon launched the EOS VR System, designed to record video for virtual reality content, in December 2021. With the launch of these products and technologies, Canon is tirelessly pursuing new possibilities for visual expression.

Adding three new lenses to create an extensive 42-lens lineup to cover even broader shooting scenes

FUJIFILM Corporation (President and CEO, Representative Director: Teiichi Goto) has unveiled the latest development roadmap for interchangeable XF lenses for the X Series of compact and lightweight mirrorless digital cameras, which offer outstanding image quality based on the company’s proprietary color reproduction technology. The latest roadmap shows the addition of three new lenses, i.e. a large-diameter mid-telephoto prime lens, a standard macro lens and an ultra wide-angle prime lens.

Fujifilm has actively expanded the XF lens lineup in pursuit of the X Mount system’s*1 premium image quality and advanced portability. Newly joining the new-generation “large diameter prime” series is a mid-telephoto prime lens. It expands the series’ range of focal lengths from 18mm in wide angle (equivalent to 27mm in the 35mm film format) to 56mm in mid telephoto (equivalent to 85mm in the 35mm film format). Users can enjoy the series’ impressive descriptive performance, based on its outstanding image quality and image resolution, in a wide variety of photographic situations.

Also, a standard macro lens and an ultra wide-angle prime lens are newly added to the “compact prime” series of small and lightweight lenses, further expanding the series’ shooting scenes. Taking advantage of the X Mount system’s mobility, Fujifilm will cater to diverse shooting needs.

*1 The system based on the X Mount, a lens mount for the X Series of mirrorless digital cameras equipped with an APS-C sensor.

Interchangeable lenses newly added to the roadmap
① Large-diameter mid-telephoto prime lens “XF56mmF1.2”

This is a mid-telephoto lens to join the new generation of “large-diameter prime” series, pursuing even a higher level of image quality. Its focal length of 56mm (equivalent to 85mm in the 35mm film format) and the maximum aperture of F1.2 make it a perfect portrait lens.
② Standard macro lens “XF30mmF2.8 R Macro”

This is a compact macro lens with a standard angle of view. The compact and lightweight design makes it an ideal walk-around lens that can cover a wide range of photographic situations from snapshots to landscape, portraiture and tabletop photography of foods and accessories.
③ Ultra wide-angle prime lens “XF8mmF3.5”

This is a compact ultra wide-angle prime lens that offers the widest-angle focal length of 8mm (equivalent to 12mm in the 35mm film format) among prime XF lenses. Despite being an ultra wide-angle lens, the compact and lightweight design makes it easy to carry.

With the extensive 42-lens lineup including the new three lenses added to the development roadmap, Fujifilm will meet its users’ diverse photographic needs.
