Nikon adds the highly versatile NIKKOR Z 24-105mm f/4-7.1 zoom lens to its range of Nikon Z full-frame lenses. With its lightweight build, flexible wide-angle to mid-telephoto reach, and superb close-up performance, this travel-friendly full-frame zoom lens inspires discovery. Easy to carry and to handle, it’s perfect for photographers and content creators who want to explore their creative potential.

The NIKKOR Z 24-105mm f/4-7.1 makes a brilliant travel companion and a great everyday muse. Photos or video, the 24-105mm focal-length range allows plenty of space for experimenting with framing and composition, while the smooth, fast autofocus helps to get the best out of every shot. Sharp close-up performance encourages new subjects and perspectives: users can capture beautifully balanced detail shots thanks to a short minimum focus distance at both ends of the zoom range and a 0.5x reproduction ratio.

Lightweight and sealed for comfortable portability, the NIKKOR Z 24-105mm f/4-7.1 is a great walkaround lens: perfect whether capturing the vibe of a destination on a trip away or getting in valuable daily practice. It balances beautifully with smaller full-frame Z cameras like the Z5II, creating a compact kit that’s ready to go whenever the creative urge calls.

Dirk Jasper, Product Manager at Nikon Europe, comments: “With the NIKKOR Z 24-105mm f/4-7.1 we’re taking another step towards making dynamic full-frame photography attainable for even more people. If you’re just starting out on your full-frame journey, this versatile, budget-friendly zoom lens delivers the flexibility and the image quality you need to try new ideas and expand your creativity with confidence.”

Canon Inc. announced today that, in October 2025, Canon reached a historic milestone of producing a cumulative total of 170 million RF and EF interchangeable lenses for its EOS series, extending its world record for the highest number of interchangeable camera lenses ever produced.

The EF lens was introduced in 1987 as the dedicated lens system for Canon’s EOS autofocus single-lens reflex film camera, debuting simultaneously with the EOS system itself. Since their inception, EF lenses have led the industry by incorporating a series of world-first technologies, including the Ultrasonic Motor (USM), Image Stabilizer (IS) technology, and a multilayered Diffractive Optical (DO) element, and have undergone numerous evolutions.

In 2018, Canon launched the RF lens series, designed for the EOS R mirrorless camera system, which features a large aperture, short back focus, and high-speed communication system to deliver even higher image quality. The RF and EF lens series lineup now includes a total of 108 models, covering a wide range of focal lengths from ultra-wide 10mm to super-telephoto 1200mm. The series also includes the world’s first VR lens, lenses with built-in power zoom suited for video shooting, and even those compatible with power zoom adapters—expanding the scope of creative expression and meeting the diverse needs of users for both still photography and video.

The RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM Z (released in November 2024),
the 170 millionth lens produced

EF lens production began at Canon’s Utsunomiya Plant in 1987. Since then, both EF and RF lenses have gained strong support from a wide range of users—from beginners to professionals—leading to steady growth in production volume. Today, Canon manufactures lenses at five sites: Utsunomiya Plant; Canon Inc., Taiwan; Canon Opto (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd.; Oita Canon Inc.; and Miyazaki Canon Inc. Milestones include 10 million units produced by 1995 and 50 million by 2009. Then in 2014, Canon became the first company in the world to reach 100 million interchangeable camera lenses produced. In October 2025, the company reached 170 million units, leading to the achievement of this world record. The 170 millionth lens produced was the RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM Z.

Canon has maintained the No.1 global market share for digital interchangeable-lens cameras for 22 consecutive years since 2003. Moving forward, Canon will continue to refine its proprietary imaging technologies and further strengthen and expand its lens lineup, pioneering new imaging possibilities and contributing to the continued evolution of photographic and video culture.

The EF lens, which was introduced alongside EOS in March 1987, has adopted a variety of world-first technologies, including Image Stabilizer (IS) technology, featured in the EF75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM released in 1995; a multilayered Diffractive Optical (DO) element, used in the EF400mm f/4 DO IS USM launched in 2001; and Subwavelength Structure Coating (SWC)7, applied to the EF24mm f/1.4L II USM released in 2008.

In 2021, Canon launched the EOS VR System, a VR video system consisting of a mirrorless camera8, dedicated lens, and PC software, thereby creating a 3D 180° VR video through an interchangeable lens camera. In 2024, Canon began rolling out a new series of hybrid lenses equipped with iris rings, designed to meet the needs of both still photography and professional video production. For zoom lenses, the company has also launched RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z and RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM Z which are compatible with power zoom adapters. For single focus lenses, the company released F1.4 L hybrid prime lens series that unified the size and ring and button position across models. In September 2025, Canon launched RF85mm F1.4 L VCM, the fifth model in this series, demonstrating that it can meet demands in line with the changing times.

Today, Nikon expands the NIKKOR Z DX lens lineup with two fast, high-performance lenses: the NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/2.8 VR wide-angle zoom lens and the NIKKOR Z DX MC 35mm f/1.7 macro lens. Built to inspire, these bright native DX Z Mount lenses deliver crisp high-resolution detail, beautiful bokeh, and they are superb performers in low light. Both are suited to video as well as stills, and they’re lightweight and sealed for comfortable portability.

The NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/2.8 VR is the first f/2.8 DX zoom lens to join the Nikon Z family and it’s a veritable DX workhorse. Superb low-light capabilities, smoothly blurred bokeh, action-freezing speed: users get all the advantages of a fast, constant f/2.8 aperture while the 16-50mm focal-length range (equivalent to 24-75mm in 35mm/FX format) provides versatile coverage for diverse scenes. Stills or video, Nikon’s powerful built-in VR image stabilisation helps keep handheld shots steady in low light, and sharp close-up focusing adds framing flexibility.

Also joining the Nikon Z lineup today is the first DX Micro lens, the NIKKOR Z DX MC 35mm f/1.7. With its fast f/1.7 maximum aperture, this macro prime is a brilliant opportunity to experiment with close-up photography, explore the art of bokeh, and create freely in low light. The 0.67x maximum reproduction ratio (equivalent to 1:1 life-size magnification in 35mm/FX format) will reveal subject detail normally too small to see, while the ‘normal’ 35mm focal length makes framing intuitive. Beyond macro, this lens makes a great choice for artful everyday photos and video too.

Dirk Jasper, Product Manager at Nikon Europe, comments: “Our customers have been asking for more DX Z lenses, and we’ve been listening. With the introduction of a high-performance f/2.8 zoom lens and a fast macro lens, DX camera owners get two great opportunities to take the next step in their creative journey.”

Sharp close focusing: a minimum focus distance of just 0.16 m keeps the focus super sharp, even when the front of the lens is just 7.2 cm away from a subject (or 5.85 cm away if using the HN-43 lens hood).

Super-telephoto lens that redefines portability.
The pinnacle of optical performance in a compact form.

FUJIFILM Corporation today announces the launch of the FUJINON XF500mmF5.6 R LM OIS WR lens (XF500mmF5.6 R LM OIS WR). The new lens joins the extensive lineup of interchangeable XF lenses designed for Fujifilm’s X Series mirrorless digital cameras, renowned for their compact, lightweight design and outstanding image quality delivered with Fujifilm’s proprietary colour reproduction technology. The lens will be available from 28 November 2024.

he XF500mmF5.6 R LM OIS WR is a super-telephoto prime lens offering an impressive 500mm focal length (equivalent to 762mm in 35mm format) with an aperture of F5.6. This lens represents the pinnacle of optical performance within the XF lens lineup. Leveraging the benefits of the APS-C format, which provides a 1.5x crop factor equivalent, it delivers exceptional image magnification. Despite being a super-telephoto lens, it comes in a lightweight and compact design, weighing approximately 1,335g1.

This lens is particularly well-suited for capturing images of birds, wildlife and aircraft, offering outstanding mobility that redefines the conventions of super-telephoto lenses. Its superior resolving power and portability make high-quality telephoto photography more accessible than ever.

When combined with a teleconverter, the XF500mmF5.6 R LM OIS WR offers even greater flexibility in focal length. Using the FUJINON Teleconverter XF1.4X TC WR, the lens extends to a maximum focal length of 700mm (equivalent to 1,067mm in 35mm format). With the FUJINON Teleconverter XF2.0X TC WR, it reaches a maximum focal length of 1,000mm (equivalent to 1,524mm in 35mm format).

Additionally, the enhanced precision in image stabilisation detection and optimal mechanical design contribute to a powerful 5.5-stop2 optical image stabilisation system. This ensures sharp and stable images, even at extended focal lengths.

Product Features

1) Pinnacle of optical performance

The XF500mmF5.6 R LM OIS WR achieves the longest focal length in the XF lens lineup for prime lenses3, offering an impressive 500mm (equivalent to 762mm in 35mm format) with an aperture of F5.6. This makes it ideal for capturing sports, wildlife and aircraft photography.

When paired with a teleconverter, the lens’ focal length can be extended further. Using the FUJINON Teleconverter XF1.4X TC WR, the lens reaches a maximum focal length of 700mm (equivalent to 1,067mm in 35mm format), and with the FUJINON Teleconverter XF2X TC WR, it extends to 1,000mm (equivalent to 1,524mm in 35mm format).

The lens features a luxurious construction with 21 elements in 14 groups, including two Super ED lenses and five ED lenses. This advanced optical design thoroughly suppresses chromatic aberration, which is commonly associated with super-telephoto lenses, to achieve exceptional resolving power. It captures an extraordinary amount of detail, beyond what the naked eye can see, inherent to super-telephoto photography.

2) Exceptional portability and superior resolution redefining super-telephoto lenses

Leveraging the APS-C format, which provides a 1.5x crop factor equivalent, the XF500mmF5.6 R LM OIS WR maintains a compact and lightweight design with a reduced weight of approximately 1,335g, despite achieving a focal length equivalent to 762mm (35mm format) at F5.6. Its precise mechanical design ensures both high mobility and premium resolving power by minimising chromatic aberration through the optimal arrangement of ED and Super ED lenses.

Even though super-telephoto lenses tend to have heavier front elements, the optimal lens arrangement in this model ensures balanced weight distribution for a comfortable and stable hold, allowing users to enjoy super-telephoto photography with greater ease.

The lens features a dust and weather-resistant structure with 20 sealing points on the barrel and can operate in temperatures as low as -10°C. Furthermore, the front element is fluorine-coated, providing hydrophobic and anti-stain properties. This makes the lens reliable for extended shooting sessions in harsh weather conditions.

3) Powerful 5.5-stop optical image stabilisation performance

Enhanced sensing accuracy and an optimised mechanical design ensure a powerful 5.5-stop optical image stabilisation system. This allows comfortable handheld shooting in the super-telephoto range, which is typically susceptible to camera shake.

4) Comfortable operation and high-speed, silent, precise autofocus

The use of an inner focus system allows a compact and lightweight focus lens assembly. Combined with a high-speed linear motor, it enables a fast and silent autofocus, achieving a focus speed as quick as 0.33 seconds4. This ensures that even in the super-telephoto range, where precise focus is crucial, subjects can be captured swiftly and accurately, preventing any missed opportunities.

The Focus Preset function enables the focus to be shifted to a location pre-defined with the Focus Preset button. This reduces the photographer’s workload as they no longer need to re-adjust focus on a targeted subject.

The lens also features the Focus Limiter5, allowing users to restrict the lens’ AF range. This can effectively shorten AF time when photographing a subject that is five metres away or more.

The Focus Control button is placed at the front edge of the lens barrel. Press this button to instantly recall a function you have assigned with the Focus Selector for smooth AF operation.

“BEST-BUY TELEPHOTO ZOOM LENS 2024-2025″: 70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VC VXD G2 (Model A065)

With the 70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VC VXD G2, Tamron offers a fast yet affordable telephoto zoom. The new optical construction, including XLD and LD glass lens elements, optimises the imaging performance over the entire focal length range. The close-up limit has been improved to 30cm at the shortest focal length. Unlike the previous model, this second-generation optic is now equipped with an optical image stabiliser, yet it remains compact and lightweight. The fast VXD linear motor ensures slick, precise autofocus, which also supports the Fast Hybrid AF and Eye AF of Sony cameras. Thanks to a built-in USB-C port, users can customise various functions using a computer or Android smartphone via the Tamron Lens Utility app.

“BEST-BUY WIDEANGLE ZOOM LENS 2024-2025″: 17-50mm F/4 Di III VXD (Model A068)

The Tamron 17-50mm F/4 Di III VXD, for full-frame mirrorless cameras with the Sony E-mount, is a practical lens that covers an ultra-wideangle to standard zoom range. This means that, together with a telephoto zoom, it can cover most subjects. On its own, this lens will often be all that is needed for those engaging in travel, architecture, landscape or street photography. With a fixed f/4 maximum aperture, the weight is low at just 460g, despite the large zoom range and weatherproof construction. Photographers will appreciate the lightning-fast focusing, while videographers can be pleased that the focus and zoom rings move very smoothly. The Tamron 17-50mm F/4 Di III VXD is also modestly priced, making it a particularly good buy.

Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, announced the RF35mm F1.4 L VCM lens and Speedlite EL-10 flash. The new RF35mm lens is the first in a series of fixed focal length RF lenses with hybrid video and still design, and the Speedlite EL-10 integrates with Canon’s new multi-function shoe design, for users of recent Canon EOS cameras.

Answering the needs of many professional high-level photographers, the new RF35m F1.4 L VCM lens can be looked upon as a standard lens for video and still users – for example, those who use the EOS R5 and EOS C70 cameras. This lens is the beginning of a new hybrid lens series and with its fixed focal length, fills a gap as there is not a fixed focal length lens wider than 50mm in the L-series – until now. Ideal for low-light, the RF35mm F1.4 L VCM lens features a manual iris (aperture) ring which helps provide better control when shooting movies. The lens allows very little focus “breathing” as focus is moved, and it’s highlighted by two Aspherical lens elements and two ultra-low Dispersion glass elements. Overall, this lens has the outstanding L-series optical design many professionals have grown accustomed to. In addition, the lens can be used with the newly announced Canon EOS C400 cinema camera, further reinforcing Canon’s full support of the video market.

“The new RF35mm F1.4 L VCM lens is the answer for high-level video in the mirrorless market – while also providing still-imaging storytellers the durability and optical performance that is synonymous with Canon lenses,” said Brian Mahar, senior vice president & general manager, Canon U.S.A., Inc.

The Speedlite EL-10 flash is designed for the amateur photographer who is stepping into the mirrorless world, and the veteran user who is looking to get reacquainted with flash photography. The multi-function shoe helps the still imagery storyteller by providing immediate access to the flash control menu, and either an on-camera EL-10 or the optional super-compact Speedlite Transmitter ST-E10 assists with triggering from one through up to fifteen off-camera flashes. The Speedlite EL-10 is a radio-based wireless flash with 2nd-curtain sync capabilities, and leverages four AA batteries instead of a separate battery that requires charging – making operation more streamlined for some users. In addition, it features a Custom Flash Mode function, allowing the end-user to register and store up to three sets of flash settings, and is approximately the same size and weight as its predecessor the Speedlite 430EX-III RT — while also pushing out the same amount of power. Automatic balanced fill flash is a key benefit to using flash photography, whether during daytime or low-light with slow shutter speed, and the Speedlite EL-10 is an excellent gear bag addition to achieve that creative look in one’s photos.

“Flash photography is a simple yet versatile way to add drama to one’s photos and with Canon’s steadfast commitment to reliability, the Speedlite EL-10 provides a full-circle Canon shooting experience,” continued Brian Mahar, senior vice president & general manager, Canon U.S.A., Inc.

Price & Availability

RF35mm F1.4 L VCM lens is expected to be available in June for an estimated retail price of $1,499.00 and the Speedlite EL-10 is also expected to be available in June for an estimated retail price of $249.99*.
