Canon has officially introduced the new Lens Dust Cap RF II, a redesigned rear lens cap for its RF mount system, bringing a simple but practical upgrade for Canon mirrorless users.

The updated accessory replaces the original RF rear lens cap, which could only be attached in a single orientation. The new RF II version introduces a redesigned locking mechanism that allows the cap to be mounted in multiple positions, making it quicker and more intuitive to use when swapping lenses in fast-paced shooting situations.

While a small update on paper, the change directly addresses a long-running frustration among Canon RF users, particularly photographers and filmmakers working in dynamic environments where speed and convenience matter.

According to Canon’s official announcement, the redesign is part of ongoing refinements to the RF ecosystem, with a focus on improving everyday usability across its lens and accessory lineup. The new cap is expected to gradually replace the existing design as new RF lenses ship and stock is updated across retail channels.

Availability will vary by region, with rollout expected through Canon’s official stores and authorised dealers.

The Lens Dust Cap RF II was first revealed via Canon’s official corporate newsroom in Japan, with global availability expected to follow in line with Canon’s standard regional release schedule for accessories.

Key details: Canon Lens Dust Cap RF II

Redesigned RF rear lens cap for Canon mirrorless RF mount

Multi-orientation attachment (improved from original single-position design)

Improved usability for faster lens changes

Rolling replacement across RF lens shipments

Availability varies by region

Why it matters

Although a minor accessory update, the RF Lens Dust Cap II highlights Canon’s incremental improvements to the RF system, addressing practical usability issues raised by photographers since the original RF mount launch.
