Canon U.S.A., Inc. today announced that its parent company, Canon Inc. is celebrating that the company’s interchangeable-lens digital cameras (digital SLR and mirrorless cameras) have maintained the No. 1 share of the global market for 23 consecutive years from 2003 through 2025.

Canon’s EOS series of interchangeable‑lens digital cameras is an imaging system based on the basic concept of “Speed, Comfort, and High Image Quality,” for which the company has developed proprietary key components, including CMOS image sensors, the DIGIC image processors, and interchangeable lenses.

Putting together a wide‑ranging product lineup – from high‑performance flagship models that are highly trusted by professionals to entry‑level models that allow users to enjoy full‑scale shooting with easy operation, as well as a rich selection of 113 RF and EF lenses that enable a wealth of creative expression—Canon continues to support the diverse needs of customers.

During the dawn of digital SLR cameras, Canon introduced its breakthrough EOS Digital Rebel / EOS 300D / EOS Kiss Digital (product name varies by region) in September 2003. By launching this groundbreaking camera, which was competitively priced and featured a compact, lightweight design, Canon spurred growth in the digital SLR market, capturing the top share of the global market and heralding the age of digital SLR cameras.

Canon has since continued to introduce innovative products, including the professional model EOS-1D series, as well as the EOS 5D series, which played a leading role in popularizing video recording with digital SLR cameras.

In October 2018, the company launched the EOS R System, which further expands the boundaries of visual expression, followed by the full‑frame mirrorless EOS R5 – the world’s first camera to feature 8K video recording, released in July 2020, and the flagship EOS R1, released in November 2024, which combines advanced autofocus performance, high image quality, and high reliability to meet the demanding needs of professionals. Canon continues to pursue new possibilities in imaging expression.

In 2025, Canon expanded the EOS R System even further by releasing the APS‑C mirrorless EOS R50 V (May 2025), the first model in the new EOS V series that offers creative video functions, along with the full‑frame mirrorless EOS R6 Mark III (November 2025), which condenses excellent shooting performance into a single camera to meet the wide‑ranging needs of advanced amateur users.

In addition, Canon released sevenmodels of RF lenses in 2025. Through these continued efforts to enhance the EOS R System, Canon secured the No. 1 global market share for interchangeable‑lens digital cameras for the 23rd consecutive year since 2003. Going forward, Canon will continue to refine its proprietary imaging technologies while bringing fulfillment and excitement to people’s daily lives as well as promoting the spread of photo and video culture by providing products, services, and solutions that meet its customers’ diverse needs.

Canon Inc. announced today that, in October 2025, Canon reached a historic milestone of producing a cumulative total of 170 million RF and EF interchangeable lenses for its EOS series, extending its world record for the highest number of interchangeable camera lenses ever produced.

The EF lens was introduced in 1987 as the dedicated lens system for Canon’s EOS autofocus single-lens reflex film camera, debuting simultaneously with the EOS system itself. Since their inception, EF lenses have led the industry by incorporating a series of world-first technologies, including the Ultrasonic Motor (USM), Image Stabilizer (IS) technology, and a multilayered Diffractive Optical (DO) element, and have undergone numerous evolutions.

In 2018, Canon launched the RF lens series, designed for the EOS R mirrorless camera system, which features a large aperture, short back focus, and high-speed communication system to deliver even higher image quality. The RF and EF lens series lineup now includes a total of 108 models, covering a wide range of focal lengths from ultra-wide 10mm to super-telephoto 1200mm. The series also includes the world’s first VR lens, lenses with built-in power zoom suited for video shooting, and even those compatible with power zoom adapters—expanding the scope of creative expression and meeting the diverse needs of users for both still photography and video.

The RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM Z (released in November 2024),
the 170 millionth lens produced

EF lens production began at Canon’s Utsunomiya Plant in 1987. Since then, both EF and RF lenses have gained strong support from a wide range of users—from beginners to professionals—leading to steady growth in production volume. Today, Canon manufactures lenses at five sites: Utsunomiya Plant; Canon Inc., Taiwan; Canon Opto (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd.; Oita Canon Inc.; and Miyazaki Canon Inc. Milestones include 10 million units produced by 1995 and 50 million by 2009. Then in 2014, Canon became the first company in the world to reach 100 million interchangeable camera lenses produced. In October 2025, the company reached 170 million units, leading to the achievement of this world record. The 170 millionth lens produced was the RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM Z.

Canon has maintained the No.1 global market share for digital interchangeable-lens cameras for 22 consecutive years since 2003. Moving forward, Canon will continue to refine its proprietary imaging technologies and further strengthen and expand its lens lineup, pioneering new imaging possibilities and contributing to the continued evolution of photographic and video culture.

In 2021, Canon launched the EOS VR System, a VR video system consisting of a mirrorless camera8, dedicated lens, and PC software, thereby creating a 3D 180° VR video through an interchangeable lens camera. In 2024, Canon began rolling out a new series of hybrid lenses equipped with iris rings, designed to meet the needs of both still photography and professional video production. For zoom lenses, the company has also launched RF24-105mm F2.8 L IS USM Z and RF70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM Z which are compatible with power zoom adapters. For single focus lenses, the company released F1.4 L hybrid prime lens series that unified the size and ring and button position across models. In September 2025, Canon launched RF85mm F1.4 L VCM, the fifth model in this series, demonstrating that it can meet demands in line with the changing times.

FUJIFILM Corporation (President and CEO, Representative Director: Teiichi Goto) has unveiled the latest development roadmap for interchangeable XF lenses for the X Series of compact and lightweight mirrorless digital cameras, which offer outstanding image quality based on the company’s proprietary color reproduction technology. The latest roadmap shows the addition of three new lenses, i.e. a large-diameter mid-telephoto prime lens, a standard macro lens and an ultra wide-angle prime lens.

Fujifilm has actively expanded the XF lens lineup in pursuit of the X Mount system’s*1 premium image quality and advanced portability. Newly joining the new-generation “large diameter prime” series is a mid-telephoto prime lens. It expands the series’ range of focal lengths from 18mm in wide angle (equivalent to 27mm in the 35mm film format) to 56mm in mid telephoto (equivalent to 85mm in the 35mm film format). Users can enjoy the series’ impressive descriptive performance, based on its outstanding image quality and image resolution, in a wide variety of photographic situations.

Also, a standard macro lens and an ultra wide-angle prime lens are newly added to the “compact prime” series of small and lightweight lenses, further expanding the series’ shooting scenes. Taking advantage of the X Mount system’s mobility, Fujifilm will cater to diverse shooting needs.

Interchangeable lenses newly added to the roadmap
① Large-diameter mid-telephoto prime lens “XF56mmF1.2”

This is a mid-telephoto lens to join the new generation of “large-diameter prime” series, pursuing even a higher level of image quality. Its focal length of 56mm (equivalent to 85mm in the 35mm film format) and the maximum aperture of F1.2 make it a perfect portrait lens.
② Standard macro lens “XF30mmF2.8 R Macro”

This is a compact macro lens with a standard angle of view. The compact and lightweight design makes it an ideal walk-around lens that can cover a wide range of photographic situations from snapshots to landscape, portraiture and tabletop photography of foods and accessories.
③ Ultra wide-angle prime lens “XF8mmF3.5”

This is a compact ultra wide-angle prime lens that offers the widest-angle focal length of 8mm (equivalent to 12mm in the 35mm film format) among prime XF lenses. Despite being an ultra wide-angle lens, the compact and lightweight design makes it easy to carry.

With the extensive 42-lens lineup including the new three lenses added to the development roadmap, Fujifilm will meet its users’ diverse photographic needs.
