Amy Bateman has been announced Fotospeed’s Photographer of the Year at the Photography Show for her shot of wild ponies, winning over £2,000 of printing gear.

Fotospeed have announced their second Photographer of the Year at this year’s Photography Show.

Farmer-turned-Photographer Amy Bateman has been chosen by Fotospeed as their Photographer of the Year 2018. Her winning photo shows a silhouetted herd of Fell ponies on The Helm, near Kendal in Cumbria, lined up by the water’s edge.

Amy’s image, which was captured on the spur of the moment thanks to the fact that she always has her camera with her, has been on display on Fotospeed’s stand throughout The Photography Show alongside the other winning images from the last year of Fotospeed’s #fsprintmonday competition. As winner of the competition, Amy will be receiving:

A Canon A2 printer

£500 worth of high quality Fotospeed inkjet paper

A day of one-to-one bespoke tutoring with award-winning photographer and photography journalist, Doug Chinnery, including breakfast, a dawn shoot, and a workshop on colour management, Lightroom, and printing.

Amy, who took the photo while walking her dog, moved to Kendal to live on her farm after leaving a career in Physiotherapy in London. The winning image, she said, was thanks to a split second decision to take out her camera – which she always carries with her – and snap the ponies in their formation. “I took up photography about 2 years ago for something to do after I gave up work to look after my children. I took a digital camera course at our local arts centre, and that’s how everything started. Now I take my camera with me everywhere. Physio, Farmer, Photographer – if it begins with an F sound, I can do it!”

“Most photographers are rubbish at discerning what’s a good photo, and so posting on social media is a great way to get feedback or reassurance that a certain technique works. Entering competitions like #fsprintmonday is an extension of that – there’s a lovely, super friendly community.”

Getting involved in photographer communities online has helped Amy gain some recognition for her work, and as a result she’s started up her own photography business and begun selling prints. “A lot of local people have started asking me to take photos and make prints for them, so I purchased my first printer at the show last year,” she said. ”I’m all set up and have been selling mostly black and white prints, but I want to start offering more, so the prize is really going to help with that. And to have a one-one-one workshop with Doug Chinnery is really amazing – he’s so well respected that he’s the kind of photographer you hold in awe.”

Toby Herlinger, Sales and Marketing Director at Fotospeed, said “This is our second year running the Fotospeed Photographer of the Year awards, and we’re so impressed with the entries we receive every week. Amy’s photo embodies exactly what the competition is about – ordinary photographers sharing a special moment with others, supporting each other, and discovering more about the world of photography and printing. We’re proud to give her this award and very pleased to be able to support her in her photographic journey.”

Plus find the ‘Golden Ticket’ for your chance to win a £100 voucher!

Developed in partnership with leading landscape photographer Doug Chinnery, Cotton Etching 300 has been added to Fotospeed’s Signature range and gives photographers a texture unlike any other paper

Fotospeed, the UK’s premier photographic paper brand, have added a second new paper to their range ahead of this year’s Photography show. Cotton Etching 300 follows the launch of Platinum Cotton 305 in February, and is the latest addition to Fotospeed’s Signature range, which brings together some of the world’s leading and most respected photographers with Fotospeed’s award winning and most popular papers.

A texture like no other: about Cotton Etching 300

Developed in partnership with leading landscape photographer Doug Chinnery, Cotton Etching 300 has a surface unlike anything else in the Fotospeed range, which helps accentuate detail and gives depth to your image. Cotton Etching 300 is a 100% cotton, acid free fine art paper with a white base and the latest coating technology to give you a wide colour gamut and pin sharp detail.

The paper will be added to Fotospeed’s Signature range, which includes papers made in collaboration with photographers such as Trevor and Faye Yerbury, Joe Cornish, John Swannell, and Charlie Waite.

Doug Chinnery said, “To hold a finely crafted print in the hand and to have made the digital image into something real, something tangible, is a wonderful thing, and for an artist, the ultimate honour is to have the opportunity to have a unique paper designed to their own specifications, which is what Fotospeed asked me to do. The result of their technical and creative expertise along with my – often rather demanding – requests, is Cotton Etching 305 – a paper with good weight, a beautiful heavy matt texture designed to bring out the fine detail, and a gorgeous soft whiteness that I adore. It renders colours and monochromes beautifully and I feel immensely proud to put my name to it.”

Toby Herlinger, Sales & Marketing Director at Fotospeed, added “Cotton Etching 300 sits alongside our popular Platinum Etching 285 as a more textured alternative. The surface texture is completely different to anything else we offer and helps complete our range. Developing this paper with Doug was such a pleasure as he understands how a paper enhances images in a way a screen just can’t. We are thrilled to have him on board as a Signature Photographer.”

Cotton Etching is available now on the Fotospeed website in A4, A3, A3+, A2 sheets & 24” & 44” rolls.

Have you got a golden ticket?
Fancy splurging on printing gear? To celebrate the launch of Cotton Etching 300, Fotospeed are giving you the opportunity to win a £100 voucher to spend on their website. The winning voucher will be hidden in a pack of Cotton Etching 300, and the lucky winner will be able to redeem their voucher online at Fotospeed.com.

You can get your pack of Cotton Etching from the Fotospeed website or at Fotospeed’s stand at The Photography Show.

Fotospeed at The Photography Show
Fotospeed will be exhibiting during The Photography Show at stand F31.
Ideal for Medium Format photographers, Instagrammers and Photo enthusiasts.

Fotospeed, the UK’s premier photographic paper brand, is launching a selection of square inkjet papers. The papers which will be available in October come in three sizes, 8×8 inch, 10×10 inch and 12×12 inch. They will also come in three finishes, Fotospeed PF Lustre 275, Fotospeed Platinum Etching and Fotospeed Platinum Baryta.

Fotospeed will be attending Photokina from 20-25th September 2016. A first look at the new square inkjet papers will be available at their stand A035 in Hall 3.1.

The square paper format will provide medium format users with a cost effective solution to having to cut from larger sheets of paper, will give Instagram users the chance to print their images easily, and will enable anyone whose photo would be better suited to a square an easy way to create that print without any wastage.

Toby Herlinger, Sales & Marketing Director at Fotospeed, believes that to get more images printed you need to give photographers the tools to do it easily.

”We are committed to encouraging photographers to print their images. Fotospeed truly believe in the power and difference that a printed image makes. Getting images out of social media and giving strangely shaped images a way of getting printed easily, makes sense to us. We’ve done the same with panoramas in the past, and we’re excited to give photographers an easy and cost effective way to print high quality, square images.”

Photographers can choose from three finishes, with all three available in 8×8, 10×10 or 12×12 inch sizes.

Fotospeed PF Lustre 275
This multi-award winning paper’s wide colour gamut and high D-MAX delivers beautiful images, both in colour and black and white. It is compatible with both dye and pigment inks and at 275gsm combines quality and price perfectly for many photographers.

Fotospeed Platinum Etching
Platinum Etching 285 is a 100% acid free Fine Art paper with a velvety, textured surface. A natural white base and state of the art ink-receiving layer delivers a high D-MAX and wide colour gamut. Platinum Etching is 25% cotton and 75% alpha-cellulose.

Fotospeed Platinum Baryta
Platinum Baryta 300 is a 100% acid free, Fine Art paper with a smooth unglazed gloss surface. A natural white base and state of the art micro-porous ink receiving layer delivers a high D-MAX (2.7) and wide colour gamut. Platinum Baryta 300 reveals delicate highlights and smooth transitions to shadows for both colour and B&W printing.

The paper will be available early October, with pricing to be confirmed.

The launch of the square paper range compliments Fotospeed’s existing panoramic paper range, which gives photographers the perfect 3:1 ratio need for a well-balanced panoramic image. Being 210mm in height means that it can be printed on by almost any A4 printer and larger. Fotospeed have also created a simple panoramic printing template which can be used in Photoshop, Lightroom and many other programs.

The Platinum gloss Art Fibre 300 will be added to Fotospeed’s range of fine art papers this September, with a first look available at Photokina.

Fotospeed, the UK’s premier photographic paper brand, is launching a new fine art paper. Platinum Gloss Art Fibre 300 will be added to Fotospeed’s existing Fine Art range, and will be available in October.

This glossy fine art paper offers a wide tonal range and deep blacks, while the distinctive fibrous texture brings out a photograph’s finer details, meaning it lends itself particularly well to black and white shots or shots with very vibrant colours. Platinum Gloss Art Fibre 300 is water resistant, instant dry, and compatible with both dye and pigment inks.

Made from 100% alpha-cellulose pulp, Platinum Gloss Fibre 300 is a heavyweight exhibition quality paper, and is protected against environmental influence, so prints will last for decades. The paper’s archival quality makes it ideal for professional or amateur photographers who want to create long-lasting images, while its glossy finish and tonal rage makes it a good choice for those who don’t want to lose detail when shooting in bright conditions.

Toby Herlinger, Sales and Marketing Director at Fotospeed, says on the new paper, ”Platinum Fine Art Gloss is a great addition to our Fine Art range, and complements the existing collection well – whereas lots of our papers offer a high quality glossy finish, the characteristic texture gives more of a subtle sheen that’s unique to this paper. We’re excited to have it alongside the rest of our range.”

Fotospeed will be attending Photokina from 20-25th September 2016.
