Today, Nikon is delighted to announce its success at this year’s TIPA World Awards, securing top honours across three distinguished categories.

Leading the accolades was the Nikon Z5II, crowned ‘Best Advanced Full Frame Camera’. Meanwhile, the Nikon ZR earned the prestigious title of “Best Advanced Compact Cinema Camera”, recognised for its “outstanding innovation, reliability, and performance in professional video production.” Nikon’s success continued in the lens categories, with the NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S II named the ‘Best Full Frame Standard Zoom Lens”.

The TIPA jury praised the Nikon Z5II for offering “flagship-level capabilities in a more affordable entry-level full-frame camera system”, highlighting its appeal to photographers and hybrid creators seeking high image quality and advanced autofocus performance. The Nikon ZR was equally celebrated for redefining creative possibilities and setting “a new benchmark for video camera performance in visual storytelling.”

The “newly designed” NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S II lens was also commended for its ability to deliver “exceptional optical performance and professional versatility.” The jury applauded the lens for its “outstanding sharpness, edge-to-edge clarity, and beautiful background separation across the entire zoom range.”

The three awards shine a light on Nikon’s unwavering commitment to producing innovative equipment that combines advanced technology and superior performance to empower photographers to push creative boundaries.

The camera includes in-body image stabilisation, 4K video recording, and continuous shooting speeds up to 30 frames per second. It also supports advanced features such as deep-learning subject detection and 3D tracking autofocus. Overall, the Z5II offers many flagship-level capabilities in a more affordable entry-level full-frame camera system.

Nikon is delighted to reveal the highly anticipated shortlist for the 2025 Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards. This year’s selection consists of 40 standalone images, 3 portfolio entries and 10 video entries – a captivating mix of inspiring and delightfully funny images, reminding us of the world’s most beguiling wildlife.

Among the colourful contenders for funniest wildlife image of 2025 is a dancing gorilla, a choir of lions and a quick-thinking frog on lookout duty! This year, there are also 10 amazing videos of wildlife’s most comical moments caught on camera, with highlights including a surfing heron and an orangutan getting up to mischief. The expert judges will be busy over the coming weeks deciding their favourite comedy critters.

© Alison Tuck / Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards

The world’s most entertaining wildlife photography competition received a record number of entries this year. With nearly 10,000 submissions from 108 countries received, they all compete to win top prizes, including Nikon’s Z6III full-frame mirrorless camera, Z50II mirrorless camera and Nikon’s brand-new compact cinema camera, the ZR. The winner will also secure a once in a lifetime, one-week safari trip courtesy of Alex Walker’s Serian in the Masai Mara, as well as some of the best-selling photography rucksacks in the business from ThinkTANK.

Founded in 2015 by photographers Paul Joynson-Hicks MBE and Tom Sullam, the awards combine exceptional wildlife photography with the power of humour to spotlight conservation. Every image is authentic, with no AI or digital manipulation allowed.

Comedy Wildlife is teaming up again with sustainable conservation organisation, the Whitley Fund for Nature (WFN), which over the past thirty years has invested £24 million in 220 conservation leaders in 80 countries. An inspiring effort which the awards are thrilled to champion.

Stefan Maier, Nikon Europe Senior General Manager Marketing says: “The Nikon Comedy Wildlife finalists are in, and we’re excited to share with you the brilliant images showcasing unique talent of photographers from every corner of the globe. These images combine wit and wonder to celebrate nature’s character, while emphasising the urgency of conservation. At Nikon, we’re proud to support a competition that sparks joy while reminding us why our wild world is worth protecting.”

Tom Sullam, Comedy Wildlife Competition Co-founder says: “We had an awesome year last year and are absolutely delighted to be able to partner with the Nikon team again for 2025. Their ongoing support has supercharged the competition, reaching more people in more countries than ever before, helping us raise awareness of animal and habitat conservation and crucially, highlight the fundamental importance of having wildlife on our planet and in our lives. These inspiring and funny photos and videos do just that. It’s a privilege to be part of this exciting journey, making us all laugh and we can’t wait to announce the winners in December.”

The Overall Winner, Category and Highly Commended Winners will be announced on Tuesday 9th December at a special awards evening in London. This will be followed by a one-week, free exhibition from 10th-16th December, where Nikon will showcase the 2025 Award Finalists at the Gallery@Oxo.

Today Nikon is delighted to announce that it has been successful across four categories at this year’s TIPA World Awards. Nikon’s latest mirrorless camera, the sleek and stylish Z f, was crowned the ‘Best Full-Frame Expert Camera’, while the Z 8 was awarded the prestigious title of “Best Full-Frame Professional Camera”. When it came to the lens categories, Nikon scored two awards with the NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena being voted the ‘Best Professional Portrait Lens’, while the NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR took home gold for the ‘Best Super Telephoto Zoom Lens’ award.

The TIPA jury praised the Z f for being an ‘excellent example of convergence between classic design and modern technology’, highlighting its great appeal to photo enthusiasts both young and old. Meanwhile, the Z 8 was celebrated for its ability to pack a range of impressive Z 9 features into a ‘smaller, lightweight’ body – making it the perfect camera for both photographers and videographers on the go. The NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena was recognised for its ‘edge-to-edge buttery bokeh’, while the NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR particularly impressed the jury, who noted that ‘it’s often the small touches that make a big difference in the field’.

The four awards showcase Nikon’s dedication to producing innovative equipment, combining advanced technology and superior performance to empower photographers to push creative boundaries, but above all, to ‘keep inspiring’.

TIPA comments on the Nikon Z f, winner of the ‘Best Full-Frame Expert Camera’ award

TIPA members praised the 24.5MP Nikon Z f as an excellent example of convergence between classic design and modern technology. Combining a Nikon SLR retro style look with still and video features that invite creative engagement, the Z f camera has proven to have great appeal to photo enthusiasts young and old. On-camera controls include precision dials for settings and an easy flip switch for choosing still or video capture. Framing and POV flexibility are enhanced by a vari-angle LCD for live-view shooting that can also be used for quick menu selections. Plus, there’s a pentaprism-style OLED with 100% coverage. Advanced video recording and vlogging capabilities include UHD 4K 30p and Full HD 120p recording, and SnapBridge, Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity.

TIPA comments on the Nikon Z 8, winner of the ‘Best Full-Frame Professional Camera’ award

Sharing many attributes with the flagship Nikon Z 9, the Z 8 hits a sweet spot in terms of size and weight for enthusiast and working pro on-the-go photographers and videographers. The choice between the two has more to do with the photographer’s mode, professional demands, and need to fit into a production regime than any major feature trade-offs. Lightweight at just 2 lbs. (0.90kg), the Z 8 is ideal for use with a gimbal for video and, being 30% smaller, is ideal for all day jobs, when kit bag weight is an important consideration. But being smaller and lighter does not mean a loss of features found in the Z 9, with sensor size, framing rates, and all the AI and tracking functions, among other specs, shared.

TIPA comments on the NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena, winner of the ‘Best Professional Portrait Lens’

It’s rare for Nikon to name a lens, so we looked it up and Plena is defined as “the condition of quality of being full.” If the compliments paid to this lens by photographers from around the world are any indication, the appellation is apt. Aimed at commercial, wedding, portraitists, and even landscape and nature photographers, pro reactions have been overwhelmingly positive worldwide. In particular, there has been special praise for its edge-to-edge buttery bokeh for stills and cinematic video, thanks to its 11-blade diaphragm; its edge to edge brightness and minimization of ghosting, flare, and fringing, due to special elements and coatings; and its customizable control and function buttons, notable for cinemaphotographers who admire its smooth aperture transitions and Nikon’s Multi System Focus AF performance.

TIPA comments on the NIKKOR Z 180-600mm f/5.6-6.3 VR, winner of the ‘Best Super Telephoto Zoom Lens”

Specifically designed for nature, wildlife, and sports enthusiast photographers, this long-range zoom lens brings it all together in terms of focal length range, fast, responsive autofocus, an STM motor for quiet and smooth video capture, and weather-sealed construction with a fluorine lens coating that, to quote, “anticipates a high frequency of lens wiping.” TIPA editors know that in pro offerings it’s often the small touches that make a big difference in the field, and with this super tele it’s the ability to adapt 1.4X and 2X teleconverters, maintain lens size when zooming, only a 70-degree turn to zoom out to maximum focal length, 5.5 EV image stabilization, and a host of on-lens controls to switch or lock modes and settings.

The TIPA World Awards is universally recognised as celebrating top-class companies and the highest quality products in the industry. It also serves to provide an important benchmark and guide for consumers when making their purchasing decisions.

Please visit the TIPA website for more information: www.tipa.com

This interchangeable-lens full-frame camera is intended for content creators who wish to record vlogs, livestreams, or video interviews. With its 12.1-million-pixel sensor and fast BIONZ XR processor, the ZV-E1 can record 4K video at 60fps in 10-bit 4:2:2 colour with full pixel readout, and minimal rolling shutter.

EISA, the Expert Imaging & Sound Association (www.eisa.eu) reveals the winners of its 2023-2024 Awards.

The Nikon Z 8 won the EISA Camera of the Year 2023-2024

”The Z 8 is a powerful hybrid camera that offers most of the capabilities of the Z 9 but in a more compact body. This mirrorless camera has a 45.7-million-pixel full-frame sensor that delivers exceptional image quality and fast shooting speeds. It also has a fast and accurate autofocus system that can reliably track subjects in any lighting conditions, and a lag- and blackout-free electronic viewfinder. Its video capabilities are equally impressive, with the ability to record up to 12-bit 8K/60p raw footage internally and a Hi-Res 2x zoom when filming in 4K. This makes the Z 8 an excellent choice for both stills and video.”

Sony is proud to announce the highly renowned Technical Image Press Association has once again recognised Sony’s performance and innovation with a total of four TIPA awards. This year, Sony has claimed titles including “Best Full Frame Professional Camera” for the Alpha 7 RV and “Best Professional Content Creator Camera” for ZV-E1.

BEST FULL FRAME PROFESSIONAL CAMERA: Sony Alpha 7 RV
TIPA editors were unanimous in their choice of the Alpha 7R V as a highly impressive, responsive, and flexible camera that raises the bar on features and functions for working pro photographers. It offers a 61MP full frame sensor, 8K video recording, and an 8-stop image stabilization system, plus it offers unprecedented accuracy and speed in tracking and predicting a host of subject’s movement with its advanced AI-powered autofocus system. Thanks to its Exmor R BSI and BIONZ XR Processor, the Alpha 7R V features a remarkable 15-stop dynamic range and expanded low-light capability. When the action is fast and split moment shots are crucial, photographers can make good use of the ability to capture 10 fps at full resolution for up to 583 consecutive compressed RAW frames – with full-time AE/AF – and, in JPEG capture, an incredible 1000 consecutive frames in a single burst.

BEST PROFESSIONAL CONTENT CREATOR CAMERA: Sony ZV-E1
Designed for demanding content creators who want to record both on the go and fixed setup content without the need of a crew or post processing, the compact and full-frame ZV-E1 offers new Al functions for tracking moving subjects, can handle multiple subject interactions, and can be set up for visual effects and moods via numerous cinematic vlog settings. Control options are easily accessed via the on-camera touchscreen and remotely via smartphones. Its Dynamic Active Mode provides increased stabilization for newfound freedom when shooting handheld while the AI chip intelligently crop in the image in order to keep your subject always at the centre of attention. Numerous connectivity options include livestreaming via a USB connection. An onboard 3-capsule mic covers directionality shifts and can be set or manually or on auto detection. A bonus is access to the Sony Creators’ Cloud ecosystem that allows for cloud-based editing and media sharing.

BEST STANDARD PRIME LENS: Sony FE 50mm F1.4 GM
Offering a super-fast f/1.4 maximum aperture, this prime lens is ideal for low light and candid shooting. With an 11-blade diaphragm and 40.6cm close focusing capability, this G Master lens is ideal as a general purpose lens that can deliver startlingly smooth backgrounds and rich bokeh. TIPA editors were impressed by the incorporation of new design and control features that make it as ideal for video as it is for still photography, including two focus hold buttons and a Linear Response manual focus ring for fine focus control. Dust and moisture-resistant construction pays special attention to seams, buttons and switches while a fluorine front element coating further protects it from challenging conditions. Like all Sony G Master lenses, special elements minimise aberrations and distortion while providing outstanding resolution, sharpness and enhanced clarity and colour accuracy.

BEST STANDARD ZOOM LENS: Sony FE 20-70mm F4 G
Modern lenses must meet the needs of video, including vlogging, as well as those of still photographers. The Sony FE 20-70mm hits both marks plus serves as an excellent wide to normal lens that extends the universal 24-70mm zoom to a very useful 20mm at the short end. For videographers, when zoomed wide it offers an extensive field of view for selfies, landscape and event photography with excellent edge to edge sharpness, while the “portrait” 70mm length is perfect for POV, interview, and detail work, with a 9-bladed diaphragm for soft bokeh effects. Two XD motors provide smooth and silent AF performance, while an updated design eliminates focus breathing, focus shift, and axial shift, with active mode image stabilization adding even quality to its video capabilities.
