WWA: 10th September 2024
Sales Start Date: September 2024
RRP: £499 (UK), €579 (ROI)

Today, Nikon adds the NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.4 to its lineup of Z series full-frame lenses. Designed to capture a natural perspective with extraordinary finesse, this bright new 50mm prime lens is anything but standard! With its fast f/1.4 aperture, sharp optics, swift autofocus, and impressive rendering performance, users can let their creativity thrive as they capture diverse scenes with stunning depth, clarity, and sharpness in any light.

Offering exciting flexibility to create in available light, the NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.4 lens is the perfect all-round prime for creative everyday photography and it makes a brilliant travel or event lens. From unique portraits of people and places to sharp close-ups of details and textures, the wide f/1.4 maximum aperture and normal field of view combine to enable intuitive creativity day or night. Nikon’s fast multi-focusing system accurately locks onto subjects even when shooting at f/1.4, and this lens’ impressive rendering performance ensures colours are vibrant and true, contrast is crisp and clear, and brightness is beautifully even throughout the frame.

Photographers and video shooters who shoot wide open at f/1.4 will be rewarded with large, beautifully soft bokeh, perfect for portraits that set a subject apart as well as creative backlit shots. In addition, low-light scenes can be captured in stunning detail at lower ISOs, and faster shutter speeds can be used to freeze action without sacrificing brightness. For those who want to achieve impactful close ups, a short minimum focus distance of just 0.37 m allows plenty of space to fill the frame or focus on fine details.

The NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.4 is the second f/1.4 full-frame lens to join the Nikon Z lineup and it boasts the same boundless portability as its sibling—the NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4. Both f/1.4 prime lenses are carefully sealed for worry-free durability and they’re easily light enough to keep on a Nikon Z camera while exploring.

Zurab Kiknadze, Product Manager, Nikon Europe says: “We’re extremely happy to add this 50mm standard lens to our budding range of accessible f/1.4 prime lenses. Offering boundless creativity and portability, it partners perfectly with our recently launched 35mm f/1.4 lens. Keep these compact Z series primes side by side in your camera bag and you can maintain a consistent aesthetic as you shift perspectives from wide to normal.”

Summary of key features: NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.4

Versatile 50mm full-frame prime lens: from intimate landscapes or cityscapes to vivid street scenes. From authentic portraits and detailed close-ups to smooth videos. Create with the focal length that’s loved for its versatility and embraced for its natural, undistorted perspective.

Fast f/1.4 aperture for creative flexibility: enables large, beautifully smooth background or foreground bokeh, as well as more freedom to shoot low-light scenes. Capture more detail at lower ISO settings and freeze action without sacrificing brightness.

Impressive rendering: whether shooting up close or at a distance, wide open or stopped down, subjects are captured with real depth, clarity, and sharpness.

Fast, quiet autofocus: confidently and discreetly capture moments that might otherwise vanish in the blink of an eye. Driven by Nikon’s precise multi-focusing system, this lens accurately locks onto subjects, even when shooting at f/1.4.

0.37 m close focusing: allows plenty of space to fill the frame, reveal fine details, or comfortably record video in tight spaces.

Video prime: this lens is a natural fit for gimbals or cages and its normal field of view is great for interviews and first-person perspectives. Focus breathing is suppressed and linear focusing can be enabled for controlled, accurate manual focus pulling.

Intuitive control: the clickless control ring can be used to smoothly control aperture, ISO, exposure compensation, and more.

Boundless portability: weighs just 420 g (approx.), and all moving parts of the lens barrel are carefully sealed for worry-free durability.

Korean optical manufacturer Samyang Optics today announced its first autofocus, super-wide-angle prime lens: The AF 12mm F2 E. This new autofocus, prime lens is specially designed for APS-C sized sensors and has an angle-of-view equivalent to an 18mm lens on 35mm full-frame format.

The AF 12mm F2 E offers a bright F2.0 aperture, which enables faster shutter speeds while capturing astrophotography and interior shots. It features 12 elements in 10 groups, with 5 special lenses (1 H-ASP, 1 ASP, and 3 ED). The three Extra-low Dispersion elements and the two Aspherical (H-ASP & ASP) elements have been incorporated into the optical design to minimise chromatic aberration and distortion, in order to deliver pin-sharp images. Additionally, improved Ultra Multi Coating (UMC) has been applied to the lens elements in order to reduce surface reflection and prevent lens flare and ghosting for improved light transmission and more contrast-rich imagery.

‘Capture every moment, day and night’. This compact and lightweight lens has a short minimum focusing distance, weather sealing and a quiet, smooth AF system for stills and video.

APS-C Super-Wide-Angle AF Prime Lens, Prefect for Astrophotography
The existing Samyang manual focus 12mm F2 is a benchmark lens that has been loved by astrophotography enthusiasts for years. The new AF 12mm F2 E adopts the Autofocus system and a new modern design that goes beyond the frame of the existing manual focus model; it is even more optimised for astrophotography, adding convenience and functionality.

AF 12mm F2 E Main Features

Exceptional Resolution
AF 12mm F2.0 delivers outstanding image quality; you can capture the starry night with
stunning clarity and far better than with a smartphone. Incorporating 5 special elements (1
H-ASP, 1 ASP, and 3 ED) plus Ultra Multi-Coating, it achieves exceptional image
resolution from the centre to the edges of the frame, even at its F2.0 maximum aperture.
With the advanced optical design, Minimum Focusing Distance is just 19cm, so you can
easily capture close-ups and indoor images with reduced backlight haze.

Bright F2.0 Aperture with Impressive Shallow Depth of Field and Bokeh
The AF 12mm F2 E lens offers a bright F2.0 aperture which guarantees faster shutter
speeds in low light conditions and helps improve astrophotography. Furthermore, during
the daytime, the F2 aperture adds depth to your wide-angle images by blurring the
background. The subject and background are effectively separated, creating an impressive
sense of depth. The large, round bokeh presents calm background blurring and high
contrast, to achieve the optimal balance.

Fast and Quiet Auto Focus System
Autofocus is now expected to capture images accurately and quickly, but it also needs to
be quiet and smooth. Thanks to the newly researched and developed STM (Stepping
Motor), a larger focus-lens group can be controlled more quietly and precisely, providing
superb image quality in both photo and video use.

Compact Size & Lightweight with New Design
Weighing in at just 213g and measuring only 59.2mm in length, this new 12mm strikes the
perfect balance of portability and outstanding performance. It is the lightest and smallest
AF 12mm lens currently in the market. This lens includes useful new design features such
as a durable, all-metal housing, an ergonomically designed grip with a micro pattern
rubber ring and a new modern design with a ‘hidden’ red ring. The AF 12mm F2 E features
weather-sealing and rear glass protection, to prevent dust, light rain, and snow from
penetrating. This allows you to capture stunning images in less than perfect conditions.

The new Samyang AF 12mm F2 E lens will be available in the UK and Ireland from
early May 2021, with a suggested retail price of £359.99 (including VAT).
